Years ago, shockwaves first started to affect swimmers on a South Pacific beach. Researchers found that when mines were blasted in the water the high-energy shockwaves would damage the internal organs of the swimmers. As researchers kept studying the effects of shockwaves, they developed a treatment for kidney stones by controlling the power of the shockwaves that were released.
