Bartleby Write Draft Details

The Draft Details window allows you to fill in key information about your paper.

Fields to Fill in Draft Details

The window appears when you click on either the title of the document or the edit icon next to it. The following fields can be filled in this section:

1. Title

Update the title of the document in the blank space here. While the default title assigned to every document is “Bartleby Draft,” you can change it to a more specific one that suits the topic of your essay/paper.

Choosing an effective title involves conveying the primary objective of your paper succinctly. This means steering clear of excessively wordy titles like “A Research Paper Analyzing the Effect of Common Pesticides on Crops” as well as extremely short ones like “American Politics” so that readers don’t lose interest in your paper.

Tip: Come up with a working title while drafting your paper to establish focus. You can reword it after you’re done with research and writing to come up with a better title.

2. Subject

Mention the discipline of study that encompasses the topic you have chosen in the blank space here. Select the most appropriate branch of knowledge such as English, Sociology, Psychology, etc. that fits the bill.

3. Instructor

Update your instructor’s name in the blank space here.

4. Prompt

Fill in the essay prompt that your instructor has provided in the blank space here.

Understanding the prompt is vital to be able to write an essay that addresses the key questions asked. This means extracting the following information from it:

  • The type of writing the prompt requires – expository, persuasive, argumentative, narrative
  • The goal of the prompt (which could serve as the thesis statement for the essay)
  • The arguments/ideas that can support the goal of the prompt (each of which could be built on in individual essay paragraphs)
  • The potential readers of the essay

Note that you can filter your drafts in the Bartleby Write Dashboard by the Title, Subject, and Instructor details you fill in the Draft Details section.
