Discuss the demographic and home language composition of the PK-12 ELL population in Arizona. How does this affect instruction in general education classes in Arizona? How might awareness of the demographic and home language composition of the ELL population in not only your state, but in the school district or school in which you teach, help you in your future professional practice?
Dear Professor and Classmates,
In Arizona, the foreign individuals within the population correlate to 935,000 people within the state. The foreign population is greater than
the amount of native language speakers within the Arizona population. The children in Arizona span from 88% of immigrants while 86% were native born. Educators must utilize creative entities for
instructional purposes that reach the diverse population to gain knowledge to succeed. However, the students struggle socially because they are not able to understand the teachings provided by the general education system. Understanding the demographics and home language of the school district will be beneficial to orchestrating the curriculum beneficial for the students. Not knowing the demographic in which I am teaching prior to educating my students causes an insufficient level of learning that can be adjusted. Students feel more confident when they understand the information is being presented to them. Nevertheless, educators are often not supported by knowing this information in advance.
