Week 4 Writing Assignment Erica Luberisse BBA 430 – Big Data and Visualization Professor Dr. Amy Esselman Wilmington University August 1, 2021
This week’s assignment illustrates the total deaths in the state of Deleware by county based on the Center for Disease Control and Prevention information. The Compressed Mortality database contains mortality and population counts for all counties in all of the states. The information I pulled provided the mortality information for the counties in the state of Delaware. The information shown in this visualization shows the differences in the three primary counties in Delaware: Kent, Sussex, and New Castle County. There is a vast difference in the number of deaths between these three counties, with the most deaths in New Castle County. If a study were done on the number of deaths in Delaware, this visualization would be a great way to show this information. It identifies the three primary counties. It lists the number of deaths and the crude rates and populations for each county so that whoever needs to know to compare the number of deaths to the number of the population would see that information. This visualization provides you with the necessary information that you need. If I needed to change anything about this visualization moving forward, I would probably show the numbers in a bar or line graph. At first, I had some significant issues with getting the information to transfer through to allow the map visualization to work. However, I struggled with this process. I finally understood that I needed to manipulate the information in the excel sheet before adding it to the workbook for the information I needed to attach correctly. This issue took me a while to realize, but it was smooth sailing from there once I realized the changes that I needed to make.
