A fringe group of ideas and behaviours known as eugenics aims to enhance the genetic diversity of the human population.

Eugenics, which is often used in reference to humans, is the selection of desired heritable traits in order to enhance future generations. Francis Galton, a British explorer and naturalist, coined the term eugenics in 1883. He supported a system that would give "the more suitable races or strains of blood a better chance of prevailing swiftly over the less suitable" and was influenced by Charles Darwin's theory of natural selection.
