Concept explainers
a.
Nature of force for the given condition.
a.
Answer to Problem 1PP
Nature of force is repulsive.
Explanation of Solution
Introduction:
Bar magnet:
It is a permanent magnet having a rectangular or cylindrical shape. It is made up of ferromagnetic material like iron, steel, nickel, etc. It has two poles, a north and a south pole.
The magnet aligns its north pole with the north pole of the earth’s northern pole when suspended freely.
On breaking a bar magnet, both pieces generate north and south pole.
A bar magnet is shown below:
Magnets’ similar poles will repel each other and unlike poles will attract each other.
So, when two like poles (north and north) are brought together, they repel each other.
Hence, the force is repulsive.
b.
Nature of force for the given condition.
b.
Answer to Problem 1PP
Nature of force is attractive.
