To explain:
How to determine which side of the boundary line to shade, when graphing a linear inequality in two variables?
Answer to Problem 2E
We can determine whichside of inequality to shade in ‘bytesting a point’.
Explanation of Solution
First of all, we need to draw the boundary line of inequality while graphing an inequality.
After drawing the boundary line, we will shade the region of inequality. To shade in the correct region, we need to test one point from either side of boundary line.To test a point in our inequality we will substitute the coordinates of point in our inequality.
If the pointsatisfies our inequality, then we will shade in the part which includes the tested point.
If the point doesn’t satisfy our inequality, then we will shade in the part which excludes the tested point.
