Richard Watson Dixon (1833–1900)
Dixon, Richard Watson. An English poet and historian; born in London, in 1833; died in Jan. 1900. He was a minister of the English Church. He was associated with Burne-Jones, Rossetti, and Morris, in founding the Oxford and Cambridge Magazine, the organ of the pre-Raphaelite school. His poetical works are: ‘Christ’s Company and Other Poems’ (1861); an epic ‘Mano’ (1883); ‘Odes and Eclogues’ (1884); ‘Lyrical Poems’ (1887). His principal historical work is a ‘History of the Church of England’ (4 vols., 1880–91).
