1 Corinthians 15: The Belief In The Resurrection Of Jesus Christ

Belief in the resurrection of Christ is essential to Christian faith. In 1 Corinthians 15, Paul makes this point clear. Moreover, the chapter illustrates that through Christ’s death and resurrection we have been given victory over sin and death. Verses 1-10 are primarily concerned with the resurrection of Christ and the grace given to the apostles to spread the good news. The resurrection of the dead is addressed in verses 12-34. Finally, the passage closes (verses 35-58) with a proclamation of the victory attained through Jesus’ resurrection.
First, Paul seeks to prove to the Corinthians that Christ was raised from the dead. It is the foundation of our faith. Therefore, no Christian should partake in denying this foundational truth. Christ died for our sins, just as the Scriptures said. He was buried, and he was raised from the dead on the third day, just as the Scriptures said. He was seen by Peter and then by the Twelve. After that, he was seen by more than 500 of his followers at one time, most of whom are still alive, though some have died.Then he was seen by James and later by all the apostles. Last of all, as though I had been born at the wrong time, I also saw him” (1 Corinthians 15:3-8, NLT).
The apostle is adamant about confirming the account of the resurrection because believing that Christ is alive is imperative. Without the basis of trust in this event, the Corinthians cannot approach any other matter within Christian faith correctly.
