John White left for supplies with 117 people in his colony in Roanoke, VA and came back two years later (Lane). Everything had completely vanished. How could someone leave and when they get back everything is just gone? For starters the British had more than twice the men that the revolutionary army had, not to mention the Hessian soldiers that the king had hired. On the other hand, the Americans had better leaders and smarter tactics to counter those numbers. On the downside ,the American soldiers couldn't get any supplies or food because they had no money to pay for it. To change matters again, the British leaders never cooperated with each other and were always going behind one another's back. How did the colonists manage to triumph in their battle for independence despite Great Britain’s military might? If any of these factors had been different, how might it have affected the outcome of the war?

After the British lost the Battle of Yorktown in Virginia and British General Cornwallis was forced to surrender more than 8,000 troops, British Prime Minister Lord North reacted to the news by exclaiming “Oh God! The spirit of freedom led the western colonies to fight for the independence from Britain. Indeed, it was not going to be easy, but the courage, willingness, and faith of many of the Patriots was the key to overcome the biggest army of the world. Despite of the scarcity of supplies, illness, and cold weather the colonies were moved by their faith along with help and supplies from France. Also, the political organization of the colonies strengthened the victory in America. If it had not been for the optimism of the settlers and initiative of the revolutionary leaders, George Washington would have lost the American Revolution.

Another reason the Colonists won the Revolutionary War was because they had better strategies. Some of these strategies were stealing British supplies like clothing, guns, ammunition, and food. The British Army was strong, organized and had competent leaders. The Continental Army had little of those qualities. The British Army had one objective. That was to capture or destroy the Continental Army. Washington and the Continental Army were the heart of the insurrection and without them the insurrection would have been extinguished.

The American Revolution was a bloody war that pitted colonists against each other, classified as the Loyalists or Patriots. However, this was entirely unexpected as the British had more troops, experience, and resource. The question remains; how did the British lose, and the Americans win?

They were determined. Determination and hope led them to win the revolution because they found a way to keep the colonies up and strong throughout the whole time. The provincial congress members had met up to discuss the colonies. “He turned from … lectures of caution and prudence to asserting and defending the most bold and undisguised principles of liberty, and defying in their very teeth the agents of the crown.” The Bostonians weren’t afraid to disobey their mother country and fight for their new country. Even though they were considered British people in America, they had never seen or gone to the other side of the Atlantic. Therefore, the Americas was there home and they were determined to fight for its independence and get away from the British.

Before the colonies relied on militia, an army composed of part-time soldiers, however as Britain’s reign of terror grew, the colonies needed a central army system that coordinated with all the colonies. The Continental Army was created and under the leadership of George Washington fought for the colonies. The army was an important part of the American Revolution as the army represented the colonists. Without the Continental Army, the colonies would each have their own plan to defeat the British. Although each colony is fighting for the same goal, if they are not coordinated together then the colonies will be confused and at a great disadvantage as the power is spread across thirteen armies fighting at different time and not one single Continental Army fighting together. Because the thirteen colonies were able to work together as one single army, they were able to defeat the British Army, even though the odds were against them. The lack of concern or care that Great Britain showed the 13 North American colonies and conflicts between the two escalated to a point that lead to what we know as the Revolutionary War. Great Britain while better equipped and trained could not support a war for a long period of time. There were many Logistical issues that the British military could not overcome which ultimately lead to a North American victory. The British were not able to create an effective and defend a supply chain. A supply chain a logistical system that is used to move goods to its intended place safe and on time. People, transportation methods, technology, information, and resources are all important parts of a supply chain. The Atlantic Ocean made communication between
