A Short Story

“Dinner was of course wonderful. But he took me completely by surprise when he suddenly was beside the table with his hand out wanting me to dance with him. Right there in the restaurant! I can’t say as anyone has ever tried that with me before. It was romantic, but weird at the same time. Did you give him that idea?”

"Sure," you said. Zack kissed you forehead before retreating to the bathroom. You continued to watch the tank until you saw two divers feeding the fish. Both of them waved at you and you returned the favor. You were about to walk to the next tank, when one of the divers started waving frantically. The other one held up a sign that said, "Will you marry me?"

“Hi, sorry, it’s me again. I just, uh, saw you still weren’t in line, so um… I brought you this,” I said, offering the food and drink again. He finally looked at me, but I could tell his eyes were slightly narrow. Was he suspicious of me, then? Was he surprised I’d do it twice? Maybe he wouldn’t take it a second time. It was now after six in the evening, and he hadn’t stopped all day…had barely stopped all week. As Anita finished straightening out her dress, she felt him gently grab her arm. "Anita, do you have to go?" He asked, . "I'll be ready to go again in a few minutes." The tiny room is almost pitch black, with an illumination of sunlight coming in through a tiny slit in the drab, 10-year-old curtains covering the single window in the room. With her back still turned to him she relied, "You know I can't stay, Ron." She sighed, feeling ashamed as she contemplated her destination once she left. "I know. You just taste so sweet." Ron was the easiest of Anita's "clients" to deal with. Generally, her other clients are quick to do what they want to do with her, then discard her as quickly as they could, as if that would help to ease their own guilty conscience

She sighed. “So, yeah, I’m sitting there and kind of starting to wonder if I really want higher education to be my boyfriend for the next few years.” She closed her eyes, remembering the suffocating feeling that had filled her amidst the talk of new life. “And that was when I excused myself to go have a panic attack in the bathroom.” She exhaled slowly. Admitting that was hard. Rachael had been the one to talk her into seeing a counselor on campus her sophomore year when her anxiety had been really bad. He arrived at his house. He had been so distracted he hadn't even remembered driving there. He opened the front door to find his wife sitting in the living room. She had been waiting for him. She looking up at him she was still mad but her face slowly soften once she realized something was wrong. They both said nothing until mark sat down and spoke.

Greg and Ashely were eating at their favorite restaurant. "We need to talk," Ashley stated, "We're just not the same as we used to be. You don't laugh and joke with me anymore. You don't vent to me, express your feelings, or gossip. We don't even sleep in the same bed anymore." A worried look appeared on Greg's face. H began to twitch and move around in his seat. "What are you trying to say?" questioned Greg. "I want a divorce," said Ashley, " I changed the locks and you need to leave tonight." Greg then lashed out in a fit of rage.
