How much harder would athletes work if they were paid for their performance on the field, track, or court? College athletes are put to the test each and everyday, they risk their health to entertain millions day in and day out. College athletes deserve part of the money due to the revenue they bring in for their schools and for the NCAA, they deserve the money because they do not have time to get a job because they are practicing and training at least 40 hours a week, they should also get paid because they are used as marketing models for the ncaa and for their universities. College athletes also should not get paid because they are already getting paid in scholarship money. College athletes deserve to get paid because they are putting their bodies on the line just so the NCAA and their sponsors can make money.

In today’s society, one of the big controversies with sports is, should student athletes be be paid a salary? Some people believe that they should be paid and others would completely disagree. Even though they technically are being paid, they really are not. The only type of way the athletes would be paid is through financial aid or if they have a job. Only their education is being paid by the school. Although some people believe that they should be paid, it would not be a good idea at all. So college athletes should not be paid at all because they are basically being paid to study and play a sport.

Do you think that NCAA players should get paid for playing their sports. NCAA players should be able to get paid for playing in games that generate millions of dollars for universities, they can get seriously injured playing the game, their images are used for other people to make money, and they are not able to get a job because of all the hours put into their sport.

On Tuesday, March 8th, I attended the book signing for Indentured: The Inside Story of the Rebellion Against the NCAA. The author of the book, Joe Nocera, started by reading a section of the book about Ryan Boatright and the NCAA struggles he dealt with. Next, the audience was able to ask questions. The majority of the discussion was about whether college athletes should be paid or not. Joe Nocera thinks college athletes should be paid because he thinks that being a college athlete is a full time job. He also believes that college athletes should take two courses each semester and be granted a lifetime scholarship. The athletes would not have to worry where they would get their money if the NCAA paid its athletes. If the athletes do not have to worry where they are going to get their money from, then could could spend more time perfecting their game and would also help them have more energy to do well in their classes too (“Top 10 Reasons College…”). These would also lead them to be more competitive towards whatever sport they are playing because they have more energy to work for it. College athletes are the face of the NCAA, without them it would be nothing. Even though they are the ones who keep it running, they are given no money. It is a corrupt system that takes advantage of its athletes. The athletes bring in millions of dollars to their schools, scholarships do not cover the full cost of attending school, they are forced to go to college before the pros, and the athletes work more on their sport each week, than the average american works on their job, yet they receive none of the revenue.

There is an issue that continues to grow with college athletes; should college athletes should be financially compensated? Many argue that college athletes are amateurs, and should not be paid, as they receive compensation in the form of education. Others believe that these athletes produce large revenue for their schools, and the athletic sponsoring body, and therefore should be paid for doing so. There are many limitations on college athletes from the NCAA and from the school which they play for. These athletes are strictly forbidden from receiving gifts, monetary compensation or royalties for use of their likeness (Marx 474-75). The NCAA, an organization founded to control violence in college sports, keeps these strong regulations as a way to reinforce that college sports are ameteur sports . To allow college players to be financially compensated many things would have to change, including the NCAA admitting that these are professional athletes. The NCAA would have to change their regulations, and schools would have to determine a pay structure for these athletes. This is a change that should occur, but with some stipulations.

When providing a service, people get paid for the service, so why are college athletes not paid for performing a service with their athletic abilities? Almost anyone who is involved with sports, whether it be watching them or playing them, has an opinion on whether or not college athletes should be paid. My opinion on this controversy is that college athletes should be paid. College sports make billions of dollars, so there is definitely room for athletes to payed in some way. There are three main reasons as to why I believe college athletes should be paid. One is the athletes do not have enough time to hold a steady job because they are constantly practicing or playing the sport they are involved in. If they can work there are rules as to what they can make. The second reason is the colleges the athletes play for and the NCAA both make money off all of the athletes’ names and the coaches of the athletes are paid very well. The last reason is the scholarships of some athletes can be taken away if they do not meet the performance standards of the college they play for.

Why College Athletes Deserved To Be Paid College is expensive and college athletes should be paid to play in order to meet their financial needs as a student. I think that all college athletes should be allowed to be paid because professional athletes get paid to play the same sport. College athletes should get paid too if they make into the playoffs. Who gets the money if they win the championships the coaches, the school, etc? Either way, the athletes do not get paid for anything.

The argument of whether or not the NCAA should pay its athletes has been debated for around 8 years now, and right when it seems like there may be a breakthrough another reason comes up for the issue to be put on hold. College athletic programs are multimillion dollar programs and the athletes who make this revenue possible are getting the bare minimum to make it by in these college programs. Last year the Texas A&M athletic program was at the top of the NCAA revenue list bringing in $192,608,876. A third of that revenue comes from ticket sales alone, which leaves the rest to television rights, licensing and other donations. In the NCAA there are 26 colleges which are bringing in over 100 million dollars in NCAA revenue (USA Today 1). But still, Horace claims that “there is a misconception that athletic programs in general are profitable and are making hand-over fist. While truly most operate at a cost to the institution”.

Athletes today are remarkably faster and stronger than ever before. There is a man named Haile Gebrselassie who ran a marathon in 2 hours. Mike Powell has a long jump record of 29 ft.These athletes are setting new records, creating high standards and making names for themselves. When it comes to college athletes, there is a lot of thought about whether they should get paid for all of their hard work and revenue they bring into their schools. These athletes are making names for themselves and for their schools, but they aren’t professionals. College sports are the pathway to possibly becoming a professional and making a career out of athletics. Although they aren’t professionals, they work hard every day and don’t have time to make any kind of other money. Should these athletes get paid on top of scholarships and other benefits for playing their sport?

Imagine yourself watching College Football on a Saturday afternoon, but then you realize that most of these players won’t even get to play in the NFL. NFL players get paid millions of dollars a year while college athletes don’t get paid at all. Every college athlete dreams of playing at a professional level at their sport. Less than 2% of college athletes get to play professionally. College athletes train for an average of 45 hours a week, which is 5 hours each day. Some of them are offered a scholarship to college, but they get nothing after that. Sometimes players are supposed to play professionally, therefore, spend all of their time training and get injured. This would most likely lead to professional sports teams not wanting to pick him or her because of the injury. Even those who do play professionally may not have the best financial management skills

Colleges give athletes the opportunity to play sports at the highest level possible while making a constant progress towards a degree. According to the statistics, these colleges earn a huge amount of money from letting these athletes perform. As an example the NCAA and CBS/Turner sports had a $10.8 million deal for televising march madness during 2011-2014. The enormous amount of money received by the NCAA have turned into the controversy if athletes should be rewarded with money, or with a full-time scholarship during a period of 4 years.
