A Strange Meeting - Original Writing Essay

While reading The Stranger I noticed that traits that Albert Camus character depicts in the book are closely related to the theories of Sigmund Freud on moral human behavior. Albert Camus portrays his character of Meursault as a numb, emotionless person that seems to mindlessly play out his role in society, acting in a manner that he sees as the way he’s supposed to act, always living in the moment with his instincts driving him, and if the right circumstance presents itself the primal deep seeded animal will come out. I believe that most of the character’s traits fall under Freud’s notion of the Id and Ego mental apparatus, and don’t believe that his idea of the super-ego is represented in this book.

In the story “The Stranger” by Albert Camus, the belief that the themes of loss and retrieval are at the core of Mersault’s mythology, and that they illumine the notion of exile to which he returns so often is widely discussed. I however do not believe that either one of those themes has anything to do with the Mersault and the exile to which he returns to so often, rather I believe that Mersault’s own attitude is the reason for the exile he experiences in the story.

In the book The Outsiders by S.E Hinton, it's built around the class division between the Socs and the greasers. The kids in the Socs came from privileged and wealthy families while the greaser grew up in a unstable and poor environment, and it shaped who they are and how they act. The novel deals with issues important to urban teens, and the obstacles that are part of their daily lives, showing realism in Hinton's writing. The Stranger The Stranger exhibits a society that has confined itself with a specific set of social standards that dictate the manner in which people are supposed to act. This ideology determines the level of morality, and how much emphasis should placed on following this certain "ethical" structure. Albert Camus's main character, Meursault, is depicted as a nonconformist that is unwilling to play society's game. Through Meursault's failure to comply with society's values and conform to the norm, he is rejected and also condemned to death by society.

     The Outsiders, by S.E. Hinton was written in 1967. This novel tells the story of the conflict between two different social groups, the greasers and the socs. The socs were the socials who lived in the rich part of town, and the greasers were the lower class youths. This novel tackles issues such as violence, class conflict, and prejudice. The novel takes place in the early sixties. The Outsiders examines how two different groups compete, and unite for survival, which is often justified with violence. Hinton’s publishers decided that she should publish the novel under the name S.E. Hinton. They were worried that readers would not respect a females perspective on violence, and that is why

Johnny Cade chose to forget everything and run, but soon realized running didn’t help him forget the past. In The Outsiders, Johnny goes through the heroic journey by the fact that he faces a harsh reality that brings him to committing an act he never thought he would, which in the end led him to becoming a hero. His story starts with tragedy and ends with it as well. The tragedy he faced, gave him strength.

Marie’s feelings for Meursault are almost admirable. Even in jail she continues to put a smile on her face for him and visit him. She must really love him. His visit with her is odd because he cares more of what's going on around him than his time with her. It’s odd because he says he misses Marie and sex so much but he doesn’t even take the time to really look at her. I keep wondering where Raymond is. After all this was his fight to begin with, in my opinion he should have been the first visitor for Meursault.

It was only after the ambulance left that the emotions kicked in. In complete silence, I managed to drive myself home. I walked into the safety of my own room, shut the door, and picked up my guitar.

Throughout the centuries, many separate social classes have clashed just because they have different states of living. Much of our literature, poetry, and film is stained with the sad truth that contempt exists between people groups. Throughout the novel “The Outsiders” by S.E. Hinton, this idea is very prevalent as the two gangs battle it out only to realize that the only way to make things right is by really trying to understand each other's viewpoints. When social classes are in place, they tend to fight against each other, but the only way to really solve the problem is by putting down the weapons and just accepting one another.

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. previously stated, “Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.” This quote connects to the book, The Outsiders, because in the book two groups, the Greasers and the Socs are always fighting each other. They are blinded by their hatred for one another and because of that they find themselves in many life or death situations. This book is narrated by the youngest of the Greasers, Ponyboy Curtis, this means that as a reader you do not get the perspective of both groups.

Albert Camus creates a series of characters in The Stranger whose personality traits and motivations mirror those that are overlooked upon by the average man. Camus develops various characters and scenarios that show true humanity which tends to have been ignored due to the fact of how typical it has become. Camus incorporates abominable personality traits of the characters, variety, consistency, and everyone’s fate.

There 's that look people get told they have, where they look like they 've seen a ghost. I want to know what it means to have that feeling but knowing you 're the ghost. It had been too long since I stepped foot anywhere near these parts of the city. After I turned and changed into who I am now, I never wanted to risk getting seen by any members of the family that runs this part. That is actually a good reason they have never been able to extend their territory any further. It 's kind of easy to hear when a gang war is about to break out for someone to gain new ground. And for me, it 's all too easy to join the defending family and help kill men you were once friends with to make sure you had the room to run fucking wild. I 'm made a few good friends, nah I made a few bad acquaintances by doing that. The men that run other parts of this city know me by who I am now, only one knows me by who I was. Maybe it 's for the best he knows Big Mac is against him, less likely that it 's me behind the mask then. God, in those days, before I grew up and found out doing everything I was getting told to do, without being told to do them was so much better, Claire not counting, she just above another voice in my head. But the freedom I have, may not seem like a good thing for the city and its people, but I love being me and only this me.
