Joseph Stalin, Abraham Lincoln, Adolf Hitler, and Martin Luther King Jr. are all remarkable examples of some of the most effective leaders our world has ever seen. Abraham Lincoln and Martin Luther King Jr. are well-known for being noble, astounding men who unified people by using a moralistic approach. On the contrary, Joseph Stalin and Adolf Hitler are both notorious for using cruel, depraved conduct while developing their fame and power. This situation is very comparable to main characters, Jack and Ralph, in the novel Lord of the Flies. Equally, the boys possess qualities of a leader, yet one technique used to become “chief” is ethical and the other is malicious. The enduring question is which of the two boys is the best leader? In my mind the answer is black and white. Although Jack wins the majority of the boys over by using their fear to his advantage, Ralph remains moral and rational and that is the most important characteristic of a great leader. In addition to being moral, there are several other qualities a good leader ought to possess. The common phrase, “confidence is key,” is entirely accurate. Confidence is the fundamental foundation of leadership. If one does not have good self-confidence they will constantly question whether their verdicts are right or wrong.
