1. My first exposer to Alaskan culture was in elementary school with many native Athabascan tales. Since Anchorage is rich in diversity, I have been exposed to many of the cultures that live in Alaska, not just native Alaskans. To have this level of diversity is so unique and one of the best elements of our community. Academically, I have already completed Alaska Studies and am currently taking Natural Recourse Management to better understand Alaska’s history, geography and the industries that changed the economic development of our state.
2. I was in born in Arkansas. I enjoyed living there till I was five, then our family moved to Alaska since my father obtained a job here. While he came up in March, the rest of the family decided to wait

We ‘ve been multiple times to Seward, taking whale watching tours and visiting the Sea Life Center. My family, while they also love the sea life, I almost wonder if they like to see them as much as eat them! We have been dip netting in the Kenai River, catching and processing our own salmon. We went calming at Clam Gulch near Homer. Watching for the water spurt from the claims in the silt was so cool. We have been as far north as North Pole Alaska; where it is Christmas all year round. There is something truly magical about seeing candy canes and holly on every wall in the middle of February. A Family favorite event to visit is the World Ice Art Championships in Fairbanks; we go nearly every year to this event to see the beautiful ice sculptures. Seeing artists from around the world slice and carve giant statues from blocks of glacier ice that tower above you is awe-inspiring. During this trip we have also gone to Chena Hot Springs, enjoying the springs while watching the northern lights dancing across the …show more content…
The delicious food, like golden cheese curds and the annual hula cookie, the new exhibits showing of various crafts from around the state. The live animals, from humble farm animals to wild pythons are always a delight for me. The newest arrival of the jousting tournament has made a new favorite, but the best thing about the fair is the family I spend it with. Yes, I have been to a lot of places within my state, and outside. However, my absolute favorite place of all is my home back in
Alaskan Bush People has been accused of faking things before and now it turns out that Noah Brown allegedly had a fake date on last week's episode. On last Friday's Alaskan Bush People, Noah went on a date with a gorgeous woman. Radar Online has been able to figure out that this woman happens to be an actress and may have not just been someone interested in dating Noah Brown.
The identity of Alaskan Natives and Native Americans and the ability to delineate tribal affiliation has been a subject of argument for many years. The demands of federal programs determine the blood volume required to be Native. As federal programs increase and decrease so does the blood volume required to obtain these benefits. Blood quantum is the display of colonialism and is gradually eroding and eradicating the roots of indigenous people and sets a precedence that a person’s blood relates to their cultural orientation and identity. “American Indians and non-Indians have defined Indian identity through law, biology, and culture. All three overlap in specific ways, but more significantly, all have ties to outdated blood quantum
Yes, this book does have a message and it is moral. The main purpose of the author is to tell a story about the Alaskan landscape and about the Alaska experience of a couple who have always wanted a child and when they do have one it dies so they decide to move up to Alaska to start their new life their so that they can forget about their old life. The passage that I am going to use is in Chapter One the Wolverine River, Alaska 1920. “She had imagined that in the Alaska Wilderness silence would be peaceful, like snow falling at night, air filled with promise but no sound, but that was not what she found. Instead, when she swept the plank floor, the broom bristles stitched like some sharp toothed shrew nibbling at her heart. When she washed
Attending the fair is a great thing to do with your family or friends or just you. The day that you come or days is going to be well spent. There is alway something fun going on at the fair. There exists a moral conflict between the worldview of Alaska Natives and mainstream U.S. culture, in general. This moral conflict was expressed during the 1970’s by ‘Naugga Ciunerput’, a fictional character co-created by Inupiat educator, Fred Bigjim of Nome, Alaska, who wrote three letters to ‘Howard’ at the Tundra Times (Nabokov 393-396). Those letters gave voice to issues of importance to Alaskan ‘Eskimos’ (people of the arctic region) in relation to the Alaska Native Claims Settlement Act (ANCSA), the largest land settlement claim in American history. ANCSA was designed to benefit Alaska Natives by indirectly conveying title to forty million acres of federal public land; and to benefit the United States, in general, by removing all other native claims to land, water, hunting, and fishing rights in Alaska,
In my opinion, what the Minnesota State Fair means to people is tradition. Families go to the state fair every year to have that one last adventure with their kids before school starts up again. Its a place where people know they can find something that everyone in their family will enjoy eating because of all the many options available. Also, parents know that with all the many games, rides, and venues available that everyone will find something they can enjoy as a family for one true last memory until next summer.
Billy Brown and his son Joshua Brown from the reality show “Alaskan Bush People” received their sentence in the case where he lied and stole money from the state of Alaska. According to Radar Online, Jan 12, 2016, Judge Phillip Pallenberg sentenced them to 30 days in jail.
Matthew Jeremiah Brown, star of Discovery’s “The Alaskan Bush People” was arrested for DUI and leaving the scene of the accident and Radar Online, Dec. 3, 2015, has a copy of the police report. Apparently, Matt, 33, went to Juneau and spent his night partying and having sex with an unidentified female. Unfortunately, the young man got hungry, so he drove to Wal-Mart for chips and that’s when he hit a motorcycle in the parking lot and left the scene.
It keeps getting worse for the “Alaskan Bush People” as fakery is exposed on their so-called reality show and once again, it is the father figure, Billy Brown. According to Radar Online, Dec. 9, 2015, Billy was arrested in Texas for stealing and his wife was by his side.
Other than that we go to the State Fair to do something and experience new things and learn new things about the history of your state and that’s in my opinion. Other reason why people go to state fair is experience or even there pass they always want another good or even bad memory. That’s one reason why I think we go to the state
This excerpt talks about the importance of glaciers in the perspective of Aboriginal Alaskans through their use of descriptive words, oral traditions, indigenous knowledge, as well as their past interactions with European settlers concerning the differences between how each side perceives nature. Where the aboriginal people think nature is an essential part of human life, the Europeans see it as a different entity, separated from humans. This difference, combined with the Little Ice Age which happened at the same time, led to “dramatic social upheaval”, readjustments and realignments of the original people, and the complication of new European migrants on the lives of the aborigines. This division that differentiates between nature and culture usually brings up debates about environmentalism,
The inuit, haida and iroquois are all hunters. They hunt their food down. Their main food is bison or buffalo, they follow the bisons and when the bison stop to graze the indians sneak up and kill their meal. All of the tribes live in canada. They migrated from pangea, the giant continent that was all 7 continents combined into one big continent. They all started in Africa and they started migrating to where their food was going. Their food was leading them to canada. They followed animals like mammoths spreading all over the world and they started making tribes and finding different ways of life.

Alaska’s geography is as difficult as running with bulls, wearing a red outfit, holding a bunch of China, and trying not to get hurt. Alaska has a lot to offer when you are looking on the bright side. A big part of Alaska is their enormous wildlife factor. According to the documents, the commonalities between the three research pieces is that Alaska has different climate than the majority of places, Alaska has a lot of dangers, and the lack of shelter in this ice land makes it really hard to stay safe.
