Another way this image could be used as a visual element is it could be put up in a training studio for figure skating as an inspiration to other young figure skaters. The next image in the article is of another female skater, Alina Zagitova. In the image she has her arms above her head with one hand grabbing onto her other wrist. She is also in mid air from doing a jump at the competition she is at with her ankles crossed and her legs together. The face she is making in the image makes it look like she is in a bit of pain or is tired from her performance. In the image all the focus is on Zagitova. The audience is blurred out in the background along with everything else in the background. The people purposely made the image this way so they
As an example she cites the Nancy Kerrigan-Tonya Harding story. “After the original attack on Kerrigan’s knee, news stories focused on the rivalry between the two skaters instead of portraying Kerrigan as the victim of the attack.”
Mary Louise Adams’ “The Manly History of a 'Girls' Sport': Gender, Class and the Development of Nineteenth-Century Figure Skating” is an article that sheds light on the role that gender played on figure skating throughout the nineteenth century. It centers on how male-dominated the activity of figure skating was throughout the nineteenth century—a stark contrast to the sport we know today, which is populated largely by women. Adams unearths the shift in the sport by examining the concept of masculinity in relation to the human body during this period, which shifted in terms of its values. Ultimately, she argues that the reason for the shift from male-dominated figure

What I can learn from this photo is that you can learn to use symbolic worlds like head in the Clouds and show that in my photos as new away of human expression can be use that people would not normal think of
Martha Karolyi is a big name in women’s gymnastics. I heard about Karolyi and her legacy at a young age. She is a coach and the coordinator of the United States women’s gymnastics national team, and along with her husband Bela, they have turned ordinary gymnasts into superstars. Martha knows exactly how to “tweak a gymnast” to make her amazing.
This genre of dance created mixed feelings among conservative members of society and although MSNBC’s Mike Brzeznski calls it “disgusting” and “pathetic” (USA Today, 2013) there is a time and a place when the dance should not take place because of it provocative style. Women are using the dance to get in shape and stay in shape, including it in their exercise regime. Regardless of the negative critiques it receives, it is a different way to express sexual feelings for one of the opposite gender when performing, which is no different than lovemaking choreographed into a piece of a contemporary dance scene and a dance that is protected in the USA through freedom of expression the “very heart of our democracy”
The image is ultimately saying what I want to but in fewer words and more colors. Thus, making its argument in logos due to its scientific and informational nature. It also makes it difficult to draw an emotional or ethical appeal. The document is simply providing logical information and not telling the audience how to feel or what to do. Furthermore, the creator and distributors attitude seem to draw from logos and inform those who lack information on the topic. This is present in the captions and pictures referencing what the purpose of certain portions of the brain do. The blogger had the same intention by posting the image on his or her blog post which would help the audience make connections to their post. They both simply wanted individuals to learn from the image and take some useful information from it. I have done the same and it has proven beneficial for not only myself but for people who may not understand functions of the brain in relations to the arts. This visual along with many others fill in areas where certain topics aren’t understood and definitely work with those visual learners like
This article written by Cohen I’ve noticed several Ideas. The main idea in this article is stereotypes. This article starts discussing a picture of two Olympian women in a beach volleyball match. The picture was of both women jumping for the ball at the net. The women were both doing the same activity; while looking extremely different.
Nothing worth having in this world can be accomplished without hard work and dedication. This is a concept Nicole has become seemingly familiar with. Nicole has gotten used to picking herself up, brushing herself off, and trying again – literally and figuratively. As a figure skater, falling is a common occurrence, “It’s nothing out of the ordinary,” Nicole had said in an interview, “we have all become used to it over the years”. Nicole has been skating since she was two years old, and started competing when she was six years old.
In the very first episode of the show Abby Lee Miller, who is the dance coach and choreographer of the team, tells the girls that they are going to perform a new dance in every competition that they enter (“The Competition Begins”). This means that they will only have one week to learn an entire dance routine. With only one week to learn a dance the time that the girls on the team, and their mothers, spend in the dance studio is significant. Since the moms are spending so much time in the studio, they are one of the focal points of the show. The mothers of these girls often argue about how certain girls get more attention than others. They also discuss how Miller spends more time and gives better choreography to certain girls and to make sure that they will place the highest at competitions. The dancer that Abby spends the most time with is
Body-shaming has been a common pattern in the media when referencing women athletics. Athleticism of female athletes is no longer at the forefront of this gender’s athletic scene. Unfortunately, the women athletic skills and abilities have become secondary to the ideal gender portrayal of women leading to a tainted perception of the athleticism of women. Often times, feminine and sexualized female athletes are displayed as the “ideal female athletes”, which inversely places emphasis on the masculinity that some female athletes possess. By doing so, the media has successfully aimed the viewers’ focus at the physical composition of the woman rather than the beauty of the woman’s athletic ability and physical strength that was exerted in order
Skating has impacted me in many positive ways. I have learned skills that I will be able to use through out the rest of my life, from being on a Synchronized skating team. Three that have really stood out to me are: Responsibility, Going with the Flow, and Time Management.
This photo seems to me to resemble a chess match occurring in the background while the foreground is of a coach/teacher and his student. There appears to be other activities happening with in the photo such as the teaching interaction between the man and boy in the foreground, a man in a white shirt who appears to be studying something (a manual, his watch, a playbook, or notes) that cannot be seen due to the chess table blocking whatever he is looking at, and to his right a gentleman taking pictures. The gentleman taking pictures appears to look like a journalist or photographer for a newspaper venue or magazine or even for a chess club organization. He may also be a volunteer taking pictures of the event or interactions. Additional activities occurring in the background displays more men playing chess (sitting down around the table) while other gentlemen are observing (men standing around in the background looking down to the chessboard of the test players in the background), and other men walking further in the background. I am not sure of the location of the image however from the clues with in the photo and the
