Imagine fiving on another planet other than Earth. In the story “All Summer in a Day” by James Bradbury, It is about a girl named Margot and other children that five on the planet Venus. On the planet of venus it rains everyday for seven years, except for two hours when the sun comes out. Margot is a nine year old gift that is different and stands out from aff of the other kids in her class. Because of the rain she has become depressed and does not fike to play with the other children. She also has the memory of the sun and is why the children are jealous and hate her. Margot was born on earth so she was used to seeing the sun everyday. This is why the children are jealous of her seeing the sun. Now that she hasn’t seen the sun since 7 years ago she is gone into depression. Since the children now that she has seen the sun they bully her because they wish that they could see the sun everyday like Margot did when she lived …show more content…
Margot does not fike playing or communicating with the other children. The sentence that the author uses is “What are you looking at?’ said William... speak when you are spoken to.” (Bradbury,1954), to show that Margot likes to be by herself and not communicate with the other children. On the other hand the other kids did offer her to play but she said no because she did not respond to them and this led to hate them. Overall the author uses her isolation to make her different from the other characters and this made the other children hate her. Overall the author uses descriptive language, long sentences, and her isolation to show and describe how to children hate and are jealous of Margot. This proves the thesis that ignorance can lead to hate. This is proved in mufti pfe ways, for example when the chifdren fock her in the closet. The purpose of this is for the author trying to tell the word to not hate anyone because you are jealous of what they
In the beginning Anne and her Mother can’t really connect or seem to agree on anything. Anne’s Mother is always scolding her for being too rambunctious and not acting like a nice, respectful, and young lady. For example: “ You don’t hear Margot getting into arguments with them do you? Watch Margot. She’s always
In the story “All Summer In a Day”, Margot’s class mates are jealous of her and describe her as different, because in the story it states, “Margot stood apart from them, from these children who could ever remember there wasn’t a time without rain, rain, and rain.” The
“And once, a month ago, she had refused to shower in the school shower rooms, had clutched her hands to her ears and over her head, screaming that the water mustn’t touch her hair.” (Bradbury, 1954) In the short story “All Summer in a Day” by Ray Bradbury, Margot is a 9-year old girl who lives on the planet of Venus. On Venus, it rains every day, and the sun only comes out every 7 years. Margot is different from others because of her experiences. This is shown when she is described as antisocial, depressed, and isolated. Among many children her age, Margot is the only child who has lived on Earth before moving to Venus, and remembers what the sun looked and felt like. The other children have lived on Venus their whole lives and don’t remember the sun, as they were only two years old when they had last seen the sun.
She is 19 and also a victim of the holocaust. She goes through some change but not as much as Anne. For her beginning quote I put “I have to help…”. I did this because Margot always helped out around the annex. For her end quote I put “It doesn’t matter now”. This happened when the Nazis came and they were arguing over what to take. I put this because at the beginning of the book she was trying to keep everything working well and at the end she lost hope and thought that it didn’t matter now. For visuals that represent the main conflict I had a glue stick because she always tried to keep everything together in the annex like glue keeps papers and such together. For her unique symbol I put glasses. I did this because Margot was smart and wise. For a visual that represents the setting I put an attic which is supposed to represent the annex. I did this because this is where Margot spends her time during the war and where she helps out. For other visuals I had a piece of pizza that had an X on it. This is because they barely had any food at the annex which was a conflict. I put a cape because she is a role model for Anne because she is smart and polite. I put a Star of David because her and everyone else in the Annex was
“All Summer in a Day” is about a girl who desperately wishes to see the sun but is stuck on a planet where it only rains. Ray Bradbury uses an incredible amount of description to convey Margot’s desperate need for the sun. “...she knew they were dreaming and remembering gold or a yellow crayon or a coin large enough to buy the world with.” She remembers the sun in such detail that she has forgotten about all things else. All Margot want to do is see the sun, and you can see it in her body.
Harassment, bullying, isolation and depression are things a nine year old should not be experiencing, but for a little girl living who's living on Venus, this is exactly what is happening. The short story “All Summer in a Day by Ray Bradbury”, takes place on the planet Venus where everyday is like the next, full of rain. To the residents of Venus, this is normal, unless you just moved here five years ago. This is the case for Margot who has to deal with the torture of remembering life on Earth. Every seven years, the sun shines on Venus. For just two hour, the rain stops pouring and the sky turns blue. Margot has been waiting for this day ever since she moved to Venus. Unfortunately, the other students lock her in the closet and she misses the opportunity to see the sun that she loves and misses so much. A theme throughout the story is that the children of Venus are jealous of Margot because she is different, this is shown when the author describes Margot, when Margot is in the shower, and when the children lock her in the closet.
Margot gets treated cruelly by those in her class because they are envious of where she’s from and her knowledge, or experience. Margot is nine years old, living on the planet Venus, where she moved from Earth, when she was four years old. Margot is the only kid in her class the remembers the sun and this makes all the other kids envious of her because when the other kids saw the sun they were only two years old but Margot was four which makes them jealous. When Margot was talking about the scientist predicting the sun would come out one of the boys said, “‘All a joke… let’s put her in a closet before the teacher comes back!’” (Bradbury 3). The kids are so envious or jealous of Margot that they want to lock her in a closet, right before the sun is supposed to come out because they don’t believe it is. When the sun finally came out the children rush outside to enjoy nature and the sun,
Imagine living on a different planet, but being isolated and friendless. This happens to a girl named Margot in the short story, “All Summer in a Day” by Ray Bradbury. Margot is treated poorly by her classmates throughout the story. In the story, several scientists, along with their children, occupy underground tunnels on Venus. It seems perfect-minus one problem. It is constantly raining, for seven years in a row. The sun is said to come out on the day the story takes place, and Margot can’t wait. She is the only one of her classmates who remembers the sun, since she moved to Venus when she was five. However, the envious children grab Margot and shove her in a closet. The sun comes out, and they play and delight in its warmth. When it goes away, they remember Margot, and, heads hung low, they let her out of the closet. The children of Venus are harsh towards Margot because they are jealous of her. Because of this, she becomes isolated, depressed, and is constantly harassed by her peers.
When Margot’s classmates lock her in a closet it is located in the middle of the story and at the climax. It is important to notice that Margot will not see the sun because she is locked in a closet. It is the “make or break part” in the story because all Margot wants is to see the
Many centuries after the first spaceship landed on the moon, a group of brave rocket men and women did the unbelievable. The short story “All summer is a day”, by Ray Bradbury, takes place in the underground city of the planet Venus where tunnels roamed instead of streets. The land above them was submerged with endless pouring rain and deadly jungles. The sight of the sun was a rare miracle that only happened once every seven years. The children spent all their life in the enclosed underground tunnels, well all except for one. Margot was the only child who came to Venus when she was four, and the biggest difference was that she still remembered the times when the glowing sun gave warmth and hope.
Anne Frank had trouble with her parents but she also had some things she could compare both parents. For instance they both did not care whether her reports were good or bad as long as she was well and happy. They both made her mad at times and they are both her parents whether she likes it or not. Each parent had their own way of viewing Anne and each one of them cared for Anne at least a little. It also seemed like they each had a favorite child Anne’s mummy had Margot as a Favorite it seemed and it also seemed as if Anne’s Father’s favorite was Anne.
Well, she was scared. Just like normal fear reactions, people would lay everything on the line just to know what they love is safe. Margot did not care much about Francis, just about the money he had. If she had cared about him, instead of getting hostile towards him whenever he did something courageous, she would have just changed her attitude and appreciate the change he had about his surroundings.
To add, when the children are jealous they end up harassing her. They harass her because they want what she has. But instead of confessing it, they harass her and try to prove that they are correct and not her. “They surged about her, caught her up and bore her, protesting, and then pleading, and closet where they slammed and locked the door,”(Bradbury 1954). This quote represents how they made her do something that she didn’t want to do. The children push and shove her because she is different but the children think of different as wrong. This is significant at the end of the short story, Bradbury explains how the children end up realizing their actions, but Margot ignores them because of what they did to her. The harassment to Margot from
All Summer in A Day by Ray Bradbury is about how a little jealousy can turn into rage and reveals that children, along with adults, can be blinded by something so simple. The author of All Summer in A Day believes jealousy and bullying are the key emotions played in this short story. Bradbury claims that the main characters, Margot, is being bullied because she was Earth longer. Whereas, the other students don’t even remember Earth because of how early they all moved to Venus. When Margot arrives, she was four. The other children had arrived two years before. The author describes her as “a very frail girl who looked as if she had been lost in the rain for years and the rain washed out the blue from her eyes and the red from her mouth and the
Not only did they exclude her but they also hater her for her differences, for the absence of colour on “…her pale snow face, her waiting silence, her thinness and her possible future.” They acted on this hate and “…put her in a closet…” and caused her to miss the sun coming out. They excluded her from all the fun they had in the sun but more than that, they made her miss the event she had been looking forward to since she came to this planet five years ago. By showing us this, Ray Bradbury successfully explains to us how Margot is different from the rest of the children in the way she acts and because of this difference she is ostracised and hated.
