Jack as an Allusion to Hitler A dictator is a ruler with total power over a country, typically one who has obtained power by force. One of the most popular cases of dictatorship was Adolf Hitler, a German politician, who eventually gained control of multiple countries. In the text, Lord of The Flies, one of the main characters, Jack, is a horrific, cruel little boy who shows traits to that of Hitler. Many comparisons of the two can be made in the book, such as how they gained their power of their groups, why and how they have such power, and their mission, once their group had assembled. The power Jack has is so strong in violence and anger, and Jack is proud of it. In Chapter 11, Jack gloats, “See? They do what I want” (Golding 179) when talking to his ex-leader Ralph referring to his tribe members. This quote show similarity to that of Hitler with his soldiers because Hitler never actually killed anyone, his soldiers did all of the work. Lastly, the most resembling trait between Jack and Hitler are between their strong aspiration to kill off the remaining tribe, or race, in Hitler’s approach. Jack has a strong hatred for Ralph’s tribe mainly because they do not want to join Jack’s tribe. Jack eventually captures or kills everyone in Ralph’s tribe beside Ralph with no remorse. In Chapter 5, before Jack starts his own tribe, he tells a few little kids, “Serve you right if something did get you, you useless lot of cry-babies!” (Golding 83 ). This quote shows that Jack has no sympathy, even to little kids who don't know much of anything, and some may even become members of the future tribe.These traits show scary similarities with that of Hitler when he killed the innocent Jews simply because they weren't like him, and showed signs of no remorse as he did it for a couple of years. In conclusion, when Jack finds his way to power, controls his tribe with fear and intimidation, and nearly kills off Ralph's tribe through survival of the fittest, these points all clearly relate to some of of that of Hitler.
