One of the most popular and dangerous sports inside high-school is, "American Football" some parents don't want to sign their teenager inside the sport, they believe it could lead to life threatening conditions. What parents don't understand is that it does more good than harm, it's better to start as a teenager to play these type of sports, to make the game familiar to themselves as they get older. When they get older and continue playing these type of sports it could lead them into getting scholarships, paying for their college, later they could even go for the big leads and go national, by playing for national teams. When playing national the players gets paid 44,000 thousand a game, which estimates to over 1.9 million per year, as you can
Is tackle football too dangerous for kids who aren’t even fully developed? Back then, when it came to sports, safety was never one of the main concerns. For example, baseball was played for over half a century without requiring helmets. Recently, society has started to worry about future generations and whether some activities will have long-lasting effects on them, such as football. Although many are advocates for safety, others are arguing that kids should be able to play what they want. While tackle football has been proven to be detrimental to the youth’s health, especially for children under the age of 13, critics have questioned and discussed whether other sports are going to be next and how they can possibly prevent football’s future modifications.
Many people argue that competitive sports raise numerous amounts of pressure on the youth making them distracted from things such as their education and because it can cause severe injuries, but some people argue that youth should play competitive sports because it teaches major life lessons that can help with many different aspects of their future such as college, getting a job, and many more. Playing competitive sports also improves your physical strength, another physical aspect of playing competitive sports is decreasing your chance of being obese or having disease. If you don't prefer to play competitive sports there are alternative options such as biking or walking to school. In an HT Health article “Sports Seen As Key Weapon in Fighting Teen Obesity” it says that in a study with 1,700 kids, ten percent walked or biked to school 3 ½ days a week,, in the study they found that biking or walking to school lowered the risk of being obese by 33%. I argue that kids should play competitive sports because of the important life skills taught through these sports and the physical benefit of playing sports. In this paper I will explain how communication, time management, and lowering the risk of being obese; supports my claim, “Kids should play competitive sports”
Every Saturday during the fall season, everyone will tune into watch the coveted college football games. Watching The Ohio State Buckeyes or The Notre Dame Fighting Irish, battle on the field to see who is the true victor. But no one every truly ask what the money is behind the programs. The Ohio State Football teams annual cost is $34,026,871 while the whole university annual budget is $5.7 Billon (). Just the football team is .59% of all the budget, even though this seems like a very minimal number it is quite huge mathematically. If the college would choose to make budget cuts the odds of the program being cut are so minimal, they would rather cut the English department even though it is way less beneficial for the college. College football is one of the few varsity level sports that all colleges have, most sports programs a black-holes money wise. Sucking in vigorous amount of funds while returning little to none. In 2014 out of the 130 DI Football teams only 24 teams actually made a profit from the sport (). Football being the number one sport in most colleges. The bigger the school the more money it will be able to produce from the football team but this is very rare. The whole subject about why college sports are even a thing is very controversial. One has to truly look at if the whole athletic programs are truly worth it. College athletic programs are very controversial and should be cut in some schools. College athletic programs cost way too much, are rarely
The game of football is being attacked. We see it every day in the headlines and on the news. The medical concerns are obvious. The game has taken more than its share of criticism. Even President Barack Obama said that if he had boys he wouldn’t let them play football. LeBron James publicly said no football in his house. So the question is asked all the time, Why would anyone want to play football? And why would anyone let their kids play? Here’s my answer. I believe there’s practically no other place where a boy is held to a higher standard then football. Football is hard, it’s tough, it demands discipline, it teaches obedience, it builds character. Football is a metaphor for life.
College football rules many regions of the United States of America, especially in the southern regions. Alumni of the certain colleges and other supporters pack respective stadiums every Saturday and passionately cheer for their teams in an attempt to ensure victory. Undoubtedly, there are few traditions in the United States that compare to College Football. The sport ensures that family members have something to relate to, brings communities much closer, and creates great moments shared around the country. Perhaps most importantly, there is one more thing that college football does quite well. The sport regularly and consistently creates the interest and demand required in order to make a considerable profit. However, the student athletes most responsible for the increased revenue enjoyed by the respective Universities around this country do not receive any of the money, despite the fact that they are the ones most important to the financial inflow. Many people believe that it is unjust to not financially reward the people most responsible for making the team money, and that college football players should be adequately compensated for their performances on the gridiron.
heart. I have been a loyal supporter of my local team since I was a
The Washington Redskins have had the name since they began playing in the NFL. Its name does not have anything to do with the team, however, the connotation of the word “Redskin", negative and a derogatory term, shows why the Washington Redskins should change their name. Charles Krauthammer explains his reasons of why they should change the name of the team by using the example of the word “retarded” as it is now, not associated with being dumb or insufficient intelligence, rather “developmentally disabled”. He later explains how someone would not simply go up to someone and call them “retarded” due to the connotation it has. Krauthammer also recognises the fact that there are still people to this day who “contain sentimental and historical
It’s a dark time of year for many fantasy football players. Some of you ladies may have noticed a terrible change in your husband in the past couple weeks.
Have you ever wondered how much a NFL player gets paid? Well, he at least gets paid more than a firefighter, a cop, and a soldier! They don’t even save lives. Every time a cop saves a live the barely get paid.
I disagree with California’s ban on the word “Redskins”. Schools in California should not have to change their mascots because of a word. The word “Redskin”, in my opinion, is not offensive. California is making a big deal about the word “redskin” when there’s more important things to worry about. I don’t understand how banning the word “reskins” is setting a shining example for other states across the country. That’s why I disagree with California’s ban on the word “redskins”.
During the 2015 high school football season, there have been eleven football associated deaths nationwide. A majority of these deaths were results of trauma to the head. This issue has led to a lot of skepticism, causing some high schools to contemplate getting rid of their football programs as well as parents not authorizing their kids to engage in the sport. Football should not be retired from high schools and youth recreation leagues.
I think it would great for college athletes in the NCAA football video game to receive compensation from the game because the colleges shouldn’t be the only ones benefiting from the game. There are athletes that get injured playing college football and their careers are done, so I feel it would nice for athletes to receive something from playing the game of football, especially after college. If college athletes that don’t make it professionally in a sport could receive compensation for their time playing sports, it would create opportunities for them to start businesses and become involved in other careers.
Football is often labeled as a dangerous, unsafe sport, but there are many good things that come along with playing football. In the past two weeks I have learned about the risks that accompany football. Many kids suffer with concussions and face injuries from the sport, which scares many people away. But, despite the risks and the unsafe label, I would allow my child to play football because it promotes health, builds friendships, and helps gain toughness.
Dating back to 1892, a new threshold in American sports history was achieved. The Allegheny Athletic Association had defeated the Pittsburgh Athletic Club. More importantly, William Heffelfinger was paid $500 to participate on the AAA team, thus birthing Professional Football. As the years passed, American Football has seen an exponential progression, including the introduction of children’s football associations. While there is a numerous group of parents who have no problem with their child being involved in football, recent revelations would begin to grow concern in some. It is because of this we must ask, should parents disallow their children from participating in football, or should they focus on the more positive benefits that the organized sport could have?
Do you have a passion, something you love to do more than anything? Imagine people trying to stop you from doing what you love because they think it’s not useful or a waste. Some people say competitive sports cost too much and they are way too dangerous for young kids to participate in. However, for many youth, competitive sports play a positive role. When kids play competitive sports, they are happier and they learn how to be healthy. Also, they learn life lessons that they will need for the future.
