American Patriots American patriots, they are the role-models of the common people. An American patriot isn't always a warrior covered in blood or a man with the dog tags of all his friends, but a common man who inspires others. An American patriot serves their country not because he/she is told to but instead because they want to. I don't call myself a patriot, but instead, I look up to those who are. Those individuals who are the real heroes of our nation are the ones that kids grow up hearing stories of. American patriots are people who would offer assistance to other people without thinking of the benefits or costs of doing so. For me, I would also help others or attempt to help people, but I don't consider myself a patriot for
When it comes to the topic of the American Revolution most have been educated about the significant battles of the war, and the overall outcome. However, submerged beneath the details of war are the individual stories of those living in the colonies. In Rae Raphael’s book, A People’s History of the American Revolution, the personal stories and experiences of the “common folk” are brought back to the surface for the first time. Recounting these personal stories utilizing primary literature provides a necessary accuracy in portraying this time period. The experiences of farmers, laborers, women, Native Americans, and slaves, among others are used to highlight the effects of the revolution caused by the historically overlooked people inhabiting the colonies.
I really think that in the American Revolution it was the Americans who won more, not just the freedom from Great Britain. The Americans asserted their rights and their freedom through a big fight where many lost more than others, but after all, with a great purpose. On the other hand, just as they could win everything, they could also be left with nothing. The Native Americans end up losing their lands, their rights and their freedom, all due to their inclinations of sides, their thinking, and their actions. Also, the British of course lost, and among their losses, there are a lot of men and money, this because of the success that the Americans had in the
American veterans are amazing people because they have been through more than what most people experience, but some are blessed enough to still be here today to tell their story. American veterans to me are brave men and women who risk their lives so we can improve our’s the slightest bit. They make the world a better place everyday.
The movie, The Patriot, is the story of a South Carolina plantation owner, Benjamin Martin, who leads a local militia against British troops in the South during the beginning of the American Revolutionary War. Martin, who is a widower with six children and a veteran of the French and Indian War, wants nothing to do with the war until a brutal British Colonel, William Tavington, kills one of his sons and takes his eldest son, a member of the Continental Army, prisoner. Martin, who’s character is loosely based on Francis Marion, the Swamp Fox, uses guerrilla warfare to cut British supply lines and attack outposts in an attempt to slow General
The Patriot is a heart-breaking movie that follows the journey of Benjamin Martin, a father of seven children (Gabriel, Thomas, Margaret, Susan, Nathan, Samuel, and William) and an ex-warrior who fought against the Great Britain army while carrying the burden of a parent. It is filled with clash of ideals, where Benjamin’s priority to save his children from experiencing the war met with the reality that his country needed him to act.
American Heroes were inspired by Greek Tragic Heroes, yet both are very different from each other, but American Heroes have very similar traits to those who are Contemporary Heroes. An American Hero is a person who seeks justice and always defeats the enemy which results in all people having the justice they deserve. American Heroes also tends to protect all and has the tendency to fall in love with the “ damsel in distress”. This type of hero goes about his daily life, just like anyone else would, until it is time to fight, and at that time, their “supernatural” powers shine through in their fighting techniques. On the other side, all Tragic Heroes possess a flaw that will change their life from a life of happiness to a life of pain and despair. Ordinarily, Contemporary Heroes have nearly the same traits as American Heroes. Contemporary Heroes save and protect many individuals from violence and harm and lives a normal life until they have to face another obstacle. Both American and Contemporary Heroes are able to celebrate their victories, while Tragic Heroes can not do so because they are not victorious.
A patriot is a person who loves, supports, and defends his or her country and its interests with devotion (“The Definition of Patriot.”). Patriots can be leaders and/or heros. Patriots are willing to do anything can to support the cause they believe in. Three people that are considered patriots are Sybil Ludington, Henry Knox, and Nathanael Greene. America was able to defeat the British thanks to all of the patriots that contributed.
As of February fifth, 2017, the New England Patriots have solidified their placement as the best NFL Dynasty in the history of the National Football League. Not only does The Patriots have the most winningest quarterback in terms of super bowl wins, but Tom Brady as New England’s quarterback has more super bowl championships won then twenty-eight other professional organizations in the NFL.
Larry Schweikart believes despite the excessive racism, sexism, and bigotry throughout the history of the United States, when the story is told “fairly,” all that can be taken away is a sense of awe at the obstacles overcome, the blood split, and the nation built. Although corruption can be seen over the course of time, the freedom of the nation overcame all else and created a bright light of a society in a world of dark oppression. Schweikart emphasizes the idea that history is often taught from a single, biased perspective, clouding the true image of the American nation as it progressed over time. He also emphasizes the ideals of character, tied to liberty, tied to property, and how they were all necessary for success. More generally, Schweikart believes that throughout the history of the United States, it has proven time and time again to be a nation based on the principles of freedom and justice, exemplified through its actions in every aspect, such as the liberation of people’s and bringing them to a higher state of living, and the sharing of power with those who had none, no matter where they came from, or who they were. “All men are created equal”; the United states is the “last, best hope” of earth; and America “is great because it is good” all extend Schweikart’s basic ideals that the United States’ history, when viewed with the basic ideal of “the ends justify the means,” creates a story
The Sons of Liberty was the name given to a group of patriots who worked underground to defend the rights of the colonists against the British government in the years before the American Revolution. They represented the ideals of liberty and justice, approving all the grievances and complaints of the colonists. Although the name was first used during the repeal of the Stamp Act in 1765, it continued to be stated to whenever colonists came together to fight new British laws, and especially taxes. The Sons of Liberty became an organization capable of getting people together to protest British impositions in a very effective manner. The slogan “No taxation without representation” was their official motto and the “tar and feathering” was
When everyone was asleep they had a surprise batlle. Some were killed and some were wounded. In the summer of 1778, Balor´s unit was stationed in paramus New Jersey. 5,000 British troops landed at Paulus hook to engage foraging operations to gather supplies for the army in New York and for upcoming invasion of the South. The American Patriots were unsure what the British mission was, so they arrayed their forces in the arc across northern New Jersey to prevent british from Marching up to Huston. After hearing America that America Militia was in the area british General Charles Cornwallis decide to go after them and march north.
“And the Patriots line up at the ten-yard line. This could be the game winning play for them. The snap is good, and Brady fakes a pass. Wait! He passes the ball, hoping that it could land in the arms of Julian Edelman, and it does! The Patriots defeatedthe Falcons, 34-28!”
Patriots Day. Patriots’ weekend, how about Patriots’ Weekends. It is hard to sum up Minute Man National Historical Park offerings in just a day or weekend. Because of the numerous activities the park schedules, it is a safe bet to cover three consecutive Saturdays worth of events which make up this unique Massachusetts event.
We're going to take a break midway through our series, "A Forgotten Hero of the American Revolution: Juan de Miralles and the Relationship between Spain and the United States" for our Sunday Question. If you haven't had a chance to read the first two entries of the series you can start here.
If someone tells you that you are a hero, would you believe that? It probably sounds insane but there is no limitation in the way people define view own heroes. They might be the superhero with superpower, only appearing when people in danger and save them. They could be the revolutionary who create a milestone that make future a better place to live. Or they are your neighbor, family or friends ordinary who sacrificed their own benefit and silently contribute to society. Heroes have become a part of the culture in many countries. Different countries value different qualities in the way they view their heroes. I have found some interesting contrasts and similarities between Hero in where I come from Vietnam and In America. In both culture, heroes forgo their personal benefit to serve their country but heroes in Vietnam have done big things because they are put in the situation while the American enjoy doing it.
