In Gym Candy by Carl Deuker, Mick Johnson is a high school student who plays football. Mick's whole life revolves around football, He is always practicing to be the best cause he always has to win but one day Mick falls behind and Mick goes to the only thing to help him get ahead. Mick's experience with steroids affected his social life and emotional life because he struggled to keep his friends and struggled with depression. When Mick took steroids, he lost his ability to control emotions and sometimes lost control of his body and couldn't stop his anger.
