I Was There: Battle of Gettysburg Perspective: Confederate soldier I was there at the Battle of Gettysburg. General Lee had decided to take an risky offensive stance in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, only to find out that there were Union forces were already there. They arrived just a day before we had.
