7/27 by Fifth Harmony is the album that I chose to write about. 7/27 is a mixture of pop and a little bit of R&B music. I enjoyed listening to this album because of the fast-paced music it had. Some of the songs all sound the same, which is why this album feels like it is just repeating itself when you listen to it.
Camila Cabello (vocals), Lauren Jauregui (vocals), Ally Brooke (vocals), Normani Hamilton (vocals), and Dinah Jane Hansen (vocals) are the members of the band. Their group was formed in 2012 on the second season of The X Factor USA. Since then, they have become the most successful alumni from The X Factor. Their first album that they released after The X Factor was Reflection, which was all pop music. 7/27 is Fifth Harmony’s most
Robin Thicke’s music video to his song “Blurred Lines” avidly contributes to the patriarchy, while portraying sexism, gender standards, and beauty standards. His music video can be analyzed from a feminist theory approach, as it’s evident that his song and video contribute to a patriarchal society and its inherently sexist and sexualized ideologies. The ideology behind the song and music video is purely sexual and about male dominance. The lyrics to the song and actions in the video exhibit extreme over sexualization and objectification of the women. Analyzing this piece of popular culture through a feminist approach opens up a provoking conversation about how popular culture functions in a patriarchal culture. Analyzing pop culture though a feminist theory can allow for a larger variety and more in-depth analysis about the social aspects and political agenda within popular culture.
Kendrick Lamar is a hip hop rapper who has been in the music industry for a few years. The first song of his I listened to was “The Recipe” on his album good kid M.A.A.D. city and at the time I did not really take a liking to his music. After watching Kendrick’s performance at the 2014 Grammy Awards with Imagine Dragons, I began to listen to more and more of his music. Kendrick Lamar’s latest studio album “To Pimp A Butterfly,” is great because of how instead of mainly rapping about the common topic of music, sex, drugs, and infidelity in relationships, he chooses to base this album on the struggles of the common people. Although throughout the album he does occasionally refer to sex to emphasize his opinion on how he views himself and how
Analysis of 7 O'Clock News/Silent Night by Simon and Garfunkel In expressive arts we are studing the topics the 60’s. We listened to the song “7 O'clock News/Silent Night” Simon and Garfunkel. In 1956, Paul Simon and Art Garfunkel were juniors at Forest Hills High School in New York City. They began playing together as a group called Tom and Jerry, with Simon as Jerry Landis and Garfunkel as Tom Graph, so called because he always liked to track hits on the pop charts.
For example, Smash Mouth writes,”i ain’t the sharpest tool in shed/ She was looking kind was looking kind of dumb with her finger in her thumb.”(Smash Mouth) This lyric describes the singer’s personality. He might not be the smartest person and people might judge him, but The singer is smart enough to make his own decisions. This is a great example of a hypole. Another examples of literary devices in the song is,”Fed to the rules and I hit the ground running.”(Smash Mouth) This lyric is an example of personification. It’s personification because it’s giving human traits to the rules. The lyric give detailed information about the singer listening to the rules, but people make fun of him for listening to every rule. That will not stop him for doing his best.
The song Clean, written by Taylor Swift and produced by Imogen Heap is a pop song that actually has a deep meaning. The secret meaning of this song is “She lost him, but she found herself and somehow that was everything.” This secret meaning gives me a hint of what type of song Clean is. This song is about going through something hard in life, it could be a bad relationship or the loss of someone loved, it could be addiction or even depression, and finally getting through it. Clean is a song anyone can relate to.
Mary Anne is a girl who came into the story of the Song Tra Bong, when the men were talking about getting some women in the base. How “It was nothing serious. Just passing the time, playing with possibilities, and for a while they tossed the idea around…” (89). Mark Frossie took this idea and made it a reality by inviting his girlfriend over to Vietnam and getting her in the base. She is a young girl just out of high school and is a very charismatic person. “Mary Anne Bell was an attractive girl. Too wide in the shoulders, maybe but she had terrific legs, a bubbly personality, a happy smile” (90). “ The men genuinely like her” and that “… she was good for morale” (91). A girl like that you wouldn’t think of her as someone who wanted to go out and kill people. That’s why it surprises the men and possibly the reader when they find out how she is affected by the war. The reader would probably think that she would be scared after learning about the war and wanting to stay in the base. Or that she would always be that bubbly person for the soldiers in the base. You would normally think that violent actions
While reading page nine through fifteen in the Wake Tech English 111 Reader I learned new strategies and tips on how to improve my song summary essay. I learned how to implement new strategies in my song summary essay so that I could write my introduction, body paragraphs and conclusion proficiently in my paper. Mutually, before reading the Wake Tech English 111 Reader I also did not know that when writing a rough draft for an essay a conclusion, introduction or body paragraph could be written first. Similarly, Ashley I always thought that an introduction had to be written before any other part of an academic essay. Primarily, I thought that an introduction had to be written first because my previous English teachers stressed
Music has played a large role in my life for some time, now. My musical interests vary, greatly as I try to appreciate each and every song equally. I believe this because I know that each artist creates this work of art which takes a great deal of time and effort. With that being said my ten songs, for the most part, a bit different from one another, but they are each very special to me in their own way. I would place these songs in the ‘indie’ category. My older sisters introduced me to this genre of music at a young age. I appreciate them for this because I would not listen or know the songs I cherish now, without them exposing it to me. I chose these songs because of that reason. Both of my sisters, Cristine and Gabriela, have been great
One of my favorite songs is, “Love Yours” by J. Cole. He is one of my favorite artists and his words are very lyrical. In this song, he is speaking as a first-person narrator. Jermain Cole AKA J. Cole was born in Frankfurt, Germany but moved to North Carolina when he was an infant. He credits Tupac as one of his major influences on his music. Growing up he didn’t have much but on his birthday, he asked his mom for a beat machine. He started out in producing music, but then used his rap on his own beats throughout high school. When he was fourteen, he had two mentors that gave him his stage name “Therapist” for his soulful flow and rhymes. After graduating high school, he moved to the Big Apple to attend St. John University on scholarships.
I think the author of the poem, "leaving the Motel," would approve of the song, "Me and Mrs. Jones," to express his poem in song form. It defines a furtive affair between a man and his lover. In the poem, "Leaving the Motel," the author describes two people are having an affair. The private couple do not want to get caught and ruin their lives outside of the relationship. The author writes, "Too. Keep things straight: don't take --The matches, the wrong keyrings--We've nowhere we could keep a keepsake" This line means the couple is double-check to make sure they have nothing of each others. Snodgrass was implying that there is no room for any mistakes in this relationship. If they had taken something of one another, they would be found out. Their secret would be relived. Now in the song, the composer Billy Paul writes, "We gotta be extra careful -- That do we don't build our
Some of the most popular songs of the album include “The Arms Of The One Who Loves You” and “My Little Secret” both breaking into the top 10 of the Hot 100 chart at positions 7 and 9.
An idea that interested me in the song “Fix you” by Coldplay was how you will always have someone to lean on no matter what. When Chris sings “lights will guide home” he is using personification in this line because saying the lights will guide them is a human thing to do, as people guide each other which I think Chris is trying to demonstrate when he sings the lyrics “lights will guide you home.” It shows life itself because no matter how big the mistakes you make, no matter how bad life may seem, there will always be someone that will have your back. This reminds me of my friends who are always there for me whether its for when I’m feeling down or if I’ve had a bad day. These lyrics also emphasize that everyone goes through rough patchs in their life and they should let people try to help them. When my dog died this year, I didn’t take it well and I was distraught, but it made me going through the loss easier
“We leave something of ourselves behind when we leave a place, we stay there, even though we go away” (Pascal Mercier). Leaving somewhere or someone behind, that is loved, can be very a difficult and trying time in one's life. Many times one will go through several different phases of emotions before they can really comprehend what is happening. For some leaving may be a chance to chase their wildest dreams, and for others leaving is a way to say goodbye permanently. In the passages “Departure” and the “Song-Farewell to Eliza” both the main character and the speaker are impacted in different ways by their departure from the place or people they love.
Released in 1998, Strange Angels is Kristin Hersh’s second solo album. It contains fifteen tracks, with “Gazebo Tree” sitting at number twelve. I have been a fan of Hersh for three or four years now; when she sings, it cuts me to my core. Although she predominately sings about herself (all of her music comes to her as hallucinations, so it’s understandable), there is still this understanding between us that is conveyed in her beautiful but haunting lyrics. “Gazebo Tree” is one of my favorite songs, and one of the most relatable.
The song “Out of Exile” by Audioslave is a free verse with a very small amount of lines that rhyme. This song has a depressing theme and acts as somewhat of a narrative of Chris Cornell’s (the lead singer of the band) life. The island that Chris refers to can be seen as his isolation/depression and the quote, “The ocean sent her waves in the figure of a woman,” relates to his second wife, Vicky Karayiannis. Being in love with Vicky took Chris out of his isolation that he felt enclosed in. Chris then states that because of this woman, he is saved and can start over again.
