Reading Lolita in Tehran is a memoir about the differences between what happened to the people before and after the Iranian revolution, written by Azar Nafisi. The story is about a couple of author’s students in Tehran, which is based on her life’s ups and downs as a university professor. The story takes place during the time period of the Islamic regime and the eight-year Iranian war with Iraq. This affected society, especially regarding the rights for women. There are many details about the revolution based on Islamic views and excuses toward the government, which affects the people. The regime reduced certain individual rights, especially for women. In this case the Islamic government changed many things in the society by forcing a religion law for everyone just for the power they want. Life is hard as it is, now imagine having to deal with adversity as well. There are some characters in this novel: Azin, Manna, Nasrin, Mahshid, Yassi, Sanaz and Mitra. In the first two chapters of the book writer describe each characters, which based on their culture. Those characters are following the same rule as everyday they did which based on their habits. Because of the country they live they are following the religion rule, which as wearing scarf based on Islamic rule. According by “Teaching in the Islamic republic, like any other vocation was subservient to politics and subject to arbitrary rules.”(P10) Seems everything is involve by the politics and religions rule. In this case people are just follow the same rule. As a result of these laws, a majority of them have the same habit loop. After Persian imperialist (Pahlavi), the nation of Islam changed society in the negative way. The new government used methodical plans to corrupt society. This memoir is consisted of four different novels, which are based on the story of an Iranian group trying to flee the on going the revolution. Lolita by Nabokov, is the first part of the novel and it compared a girl who was arrested when she was 13 by Iranian women.
