Annotated Bibliography "Preliminary Details and Analysis of the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act." Tax Foundation, Tax Foundation, 18 Dec. 2017, taxfoundation.org. This website offers honest feedback on the details of tax cuts and job act. The Tax Cuts and Jobs Act is a tax plan, which would spur an additional $1 trillion in federal revenues from economic growth. These new revenues would reduce the cost of the plan. The tax plan limits several other deductions and, in some cases, eliminate. It also expands the child tax credit from $1,000 to $2,000, while increasing the phaseout from $110,000 in current law to $400,000 for married couples. The first $1,400 would be refundable. Several sections for this website address the process and give good insight
The Fair Tax Plan is a sales tax proposal to replace the current U.S. income tax structure. It would allow all taxpayers to pay the same amount of tax, whether they are wealthy or poor. The current tax code has over 60,000 pages, which wealthy people can afford to hire someone to find loop holes that will keep them from having to pay taxes; whereas someone poor wouldn’t be able to afford someone to help them find loop holes, causing them to have to pay taxes no matter what. The fair tax plan code is about 132 pages which allows for greater transparency and understanding for both the wealthy and poor, and it would allow everyone to pay the same tax rate on things they buy. Many view this as a negative aspect because sales tax will be increasingly
The tax policy in the United States is very confusing. When the tax policy was originally written in 1913 it was four hundred pages. Now, over the past ninety one years, that tax policy has evolved to over 72,000 pages. Since the tax code has become so lengthy and nearly impossible to understand, the topic of tax reform has been in the minds of many. Although, most barely think about tax reform until tax season. It is a controversial subject due to the impact a change in tax code would have on the American people. The two most popular and widely known stakeholders in this debate are the two major political parties in the United States, the Democrats and the Republicans. The two parties share absolutely no common ground on the subject of

During the activity, I chose federal budget cuts for domestic programs and foreign aid. I cut foreign aid in half. I do not think that America needs to help the world anymore. We have already helped out a lot and we should only help towards people that really need it, such as starving Africans, instead of funding wars overseas. I cut the pay of civilian federal workers by 5 percent. People in the federal government get paid more and more every year while citizens of our country get paid a lower minimum wage than a lot of other places in the world. I cut 250,000 government contractors. There are more contractors than government officials, which means more money spent on a government that does not fully have the needs of the country in mind. In addition, I chose federal budget cuts for the military. I reduced the number of troops in Iraq and Afghanistan to 30,000 by 2013. We do not need the troops in Iraq or Afghanistan anymore. The war is over. Let the country figure out what it needs to do by itself. We helped create the uprising there, so we can help diminish it by reducing troops. I also chose federal budget cuts for healthcare. I enacted medical malpractice reform. I think it is important that our doctors research as much as they can about a procedure or a medicine, so that they can provide the proper care for a patient and reduce the risk of getting sued.
Governor Sam Brownback is known for his tax cut experiment in Kansas and has been trying to make Kansas a more profitable place to live. The media has highly criticized his ideas saying jobs did not grow and there was less growth in Kansas compared to any other state. The media also said he cut back on education. Yes, he did cut back on a little bit, just about 4% to 62.4% from 66.7%; however that percentage of education funding in Kansas is from the whole budget for the entire state of Kansas. Sam Brownback should be re-elected as Governor because he will provide more jobs, get rid of taxes on job earnings, and balance the kansas budget.
Fox News: Other than the fact that the new tax plan is biased, the amount of changes specified alone generate a significant number of opposers. The GOP tend to make it seem like their tax package will be change that’s beneficial for every American, however, they always make decisions that contradict their opposing side (Democrats). Fox discusses how the Republicans avoid mentioning the costs of creating new tax reforms similar to how they promised to make insurance coverage the same as Obamacare now. In all honesty, after this article referred to Obamacare, the rest of the “information” seems like fluff. I attempted at reading the paragraphs that were oddly formed, but in my eyes they had no correlation to the tax reform/ Obamacare. I recall one piece that discussed how Trump didn’t remember a meeting he had with his former foreign policy advisor that was from his campaign, and as I read I thought to myself, “How does this relate to the tax cuts?”
(Black, 565-483) This means that every working family still pays taxes, however their taxes would be cut, meaning they would be paying less taxes than before. As for the “ millionaires” and higher class of society they will still pay the same taxes as they did before. This policy is more likely to be considered as equal because it is not rated fair when people from different social classes with a big difference in their incomes pay the same taxes. Especially because the taxes will eventually be lowered for the lower classes because they would be unable to afford paying the regular and high taxes. This will also lead in the cut of taxes for the high social class, which then makes the whole concept unequal. Not just for the people but also for the national economy (Witcover, 791-545).
On December 1st, 2017 the Senate passed the most sweeping tax rewrite in decades. Republicans were lining up to approve the bill that will cover almost every corner of the United States economy, affecting families, small business owners and multinational corporations, with the biggest benefits flowing to the highest-earning Americans. Parts of these bills include the Child Tax Credit, the 529 Plan, Blocking Arctic Drilling, and Remove Endowment Tax Exemption.
More than 35% of American adults are obese and as a consequence, are at increased risks for health issues such as heart disease, high blood pressure, and diabetes ("Overweight & Obesity"). The U.S. taxpayer is supplementing much of the cost to treat obesity related health issues through public health programs such as Medicare and Medicaid ("Economic Costs"). A positive externality will occur in the form of decreased health care expenditures on Medicare and Medicaid. The U.S. government should impose an excise tax on soda and other beverages that contain sugar. Consumers who drink excess sugary beverages impose a negative internality on their health; as well as imposing a negative externality on the American
While most taxpayers agree that tax reform is necessary for our country the problem they encounter is the difficulty they experience when trying to understand all the political terms used when discussing tax reform. This paper is an attempt to help the taxpayers of our country to better understand the political terminology and gain knowledge about some of the proposals that have been explored.
In Title IX named, Revenue Provisions, will provide a middle-class tax cut to help those families and small business owners have more affordable insurance coverage ("Read the Law | HealthCare.gov", n.d).
The act included, allowing the top tax income bracket to remain at 35 percent, a refund of a $1000 was allowed for the child credit tax, which included a greater tax for married couples (Dye). Unemployment was extended by 13 months to individual without employment, estate tax, American opportunity credit and social security payroll tax reduction also keep the momentum of the 2003 Bush Tax Act. In additional, the 2003 act and other tax credits were implemented in the 2010 Reform Act, such as the energy credit, which rewarded individual that replace non-energy with energy efficient
…I asked my nominee for chair of the Council of Economic Advisers, Dr. Christina Romer, and the vice president-elect's chief economic adviser, Dr. Jared Bernstein , to conduct a rigorous analysis of this plan and come up with projections of how many jobs it will create—and what kind of jobs they will be… The report confirms that our plan will likely save or create 3 to 4 million jobs… The jobs we create will be in businesses large and small across a wide range of industries. And they'll be the kind of jobs that don't just put people to work in the short term, but position our economy to lead the world in the long-term… The jobs being created by the House bill could cost as much as 2.5 times more than jobs created without the stimulus bill. (Grassley)
This may sound like a tax plan that will relieve the financial burden on lower-income taxpayers, directly benefiting the poor, but in actuality, cutting taxes for all in a regressive manner gives substantially more money to the wealthiest taxpayers and a very small amount to lower income taxpayers. According to his plan, a typical American family of four will be able to keep at least $1, 600 more of
The encouragement of economic disparity because of these tax cuts is bad for America. The US should be aiming for more social and economic equality for everybody. Tax cuts can slow down the economy by putting more money into the wealthy peoples’ hands and giving less to the people who need it.
