Are You A True American?

Does being American mean that you’re an American citizen, or does it mean that you have the same rights and decisions as someone who is a successful American citizen? These decisions include choices you make in order to better yourself in life, whether it has to do with your choice in career, or what you want to do in life. Making decisions, and having choices comes with freedom, as a person, and that reflects on being an American everywhere in the world, even though you’ve never been in America. To be an American means that you have the freedom, and rights to do what you want, be who you are, and be/ become who you want. This right of having the freedom to do what you want, can be elaborated by someone’s life chances.

Simply living in America doesn't define you as an American. Being able to proudly own that you're an american, giving up things to better the country, working overtime, helping those who are homeless, picking up the litter, loving your country for what it is. If you don't contribute, if you can't own it, and if you can't stand up for it, you're not an american. Being American is being free, having the right to believe in what you want, being able to not only have a dream, but make that dream come true.

An American can be defined by a variety of things. A natural born citizen is just as American as an immigrant searching for a new life, just like in “America and I” by Aniza Yezierska. An American can be a rich businessman or it could be a dedicated soldier like in “Veteran’s Day: Never Forget Their Duty” by John McCain. An individual’s definition of being an American is shaped by their life experiences. A person’s view on being an American is different because of experiences, such as being a veteran, being an immigrant, or living in poverty, all of which affect one’s perspective.

What does it mean to be an American? In my eyes to be an American means to have privileges, rights, and freedom. America isn't perfect, but it is one of the only countries that have rights given to people of different diversities and gender. America does not have tremendous poverty. Instead we have choices given to us by the people who fought and died for the American people. Without George Washington and the other patriots who planted the first seed in the ground and help plant the American nation we live in now who knows what America would be like now.

The American is a new man who is neither a European, nor his direct descendant. He is a strange mix of blood which cannot be found in any other country. The American is described as a person whose grandfather was an Englishman, his mother was Dutch and who has married a Frenchwoman. The American is a person who has left behind all his ancient manners and prejudices, and has received new ones from the mode of life he has embraced, the rank he holds and the government he obeys. A person becomes an American after being received in the broad lap of the great Alma Mater, and he becomes melted down into the new race of men whose posterity and efforts could transform the world in the days to come.

First of all, being American mean to have a willingness to accept others from different culture. Anzia Yezierska, the author of the selection, “American and I” article wrote about the many immigrants comes to America. “My great chance to learn to be a civilized being to become an American by living with them” (Yezieska 20). Her countless opportunity made her to learn to be a more culture person then she used

The United States of America is thought to be the “land of the free and the home of the brave” yet nothing here is given. There are no easy ways to be an American. Everyone in our country either had to fight to get here, and stay here or had to fight for something they wanted or believed in.Yes, America does have more opportunities and rights than other countries but they aren’t accessible to everybody. Being an American is having determination, independence and courage to fight for something you want and/or need.

What does it mean to be an American? Being an American means a multitude of different things. It depends on who the person is and what is the most important to them. It may be that they are free, or that they are proud, or simply because they appreciate the country’s history. This country has so many privileges that other countries do not have, and this sets it aside from them.

To be an American can mean a lot of things to others, but one thing everyone has in common on what they think it means is to be free. It means you can vote for who and what you want. It means you can say “The Pledge of Allegiance.” It means you can have a good education and the job you want. It means to be proud in living in the United States of America. Being an American is having freedom and being able to do things with that freedom. It’s about having freedom of religion, rights, and justice. It also means having equality. To be an American means you have the right and freedom to do what you want. It means having the freedom of speech. It means you can be yourself. To be an American mainly means having freedom.

What does it mean to be an American?. Many people feel that the American Dream is something hard to conquer. In reality the American Dream is just living like any average American in the United States , living with the right to have life, liberty , and the pursuit of happiness. It means that Americans have the right to vote if they want , have the right to speak their minds , or even publish what they want . It is being a republic civilization with a national government system that limits and protects American citizen laws from being violated.

America has made in the past, to appreciate the freedoms and opportunities that are presented to all Americans, and to celebrate the great country that we live in. Being an American means that people can live anywhere they want, to work in any industry they choose. The Declaration of Independence, Yo soy Joaquin and interviews malcolm x have shown what is means to be an American. In all desire of equality, opportunities and happiness are all true based on to what is means being an American.

The first thing on my list for what it means to be an American is to have an American Dream. First of all, when I think of an American Dream I think of my idol, Michael Jordan. Michael Jordan was a kid that loved sports.He loved to play sports such as basketball and baseball, he started out playing baseball because of his dad. Which he did play professional major league baseball for his dad but wasn’t that good. However, he found out that his real passion was to play basketball, but

Being an American means to have opportunities that are available to us that others don’t get in other parts of the world. The United States of America is a country that is based on being a free country for citizens to have more freedom than anywhere else. It is one of the only countries that give rights to people of different diversities and genders. To be an American means to have opportunities, rights, and freedom.

A real American is more than that they lend helping hands, work hard and fight for what is right, they stand up for what they believe in, and they show respect to everyone and they also respect the flag that represents this great country. First, real Americans are willing to lend a helping hand. When they see someone struggling with finances they lend them some money to help them get out of their struggle. If someone has lost everything to a tornado real Americans help rebuild the house that was lost and provide the family shelter, food, clothing and other necessities until they can return to their own feet.

While reading the freshman reader The True American, I discovered that we all could take away some important lessons from this book. This book is filled with many different lessons we all could learn, but it just depends on how you comprehend it. The first lesson I believe people can learn is that even if you get hurt by someone doesn’t mean you should want them to suffer. I think this lesson is important because to many people today always wants karma to happen to others, once they have done something to them. Another lesson I think people can learn from this book is never change your feelings about yourself and who you are. These lessons are just a couple of the lessons found in The True American.
