Modern guns can be extremely powerful and accurate at many ranges, but when firearms were first invented that was not the case. Early firearms tended to be very inaccurate and not even shoot very far. Because of how they were loaded a lot of time in between shots was spent shoving black powder and a hunk of metal down the barrel. Another common weapon used in these times was the bow which unlike these early firearms could fire quickly, were very accurate, and could be fired from farther away. So why was the bow so quickly replaced with these “inferior” weapons? One very important reason for replacing the bow wasn’t even due to the effectiveness of the weapon. The problem was the skill required to use it. Training someone to be effective
The innovation was in how the Huns redesigned the bow. The Hunnic war bow was a compound bow which was “reflexed”, meaning that when unstrung it would actually curve in the opposite way it was intended to be used. The process for making these bows is incredibly complex. First horn from the Hungarian Grey Steer was cut into strips and filed smooth. It was then submerged in boiling water and it slowly straightened as it softened (the softening was not permanent; it only persists while the horn was being boiled) in the water. The now-flat strips of horn were then filed down to their final thickness. A wood was selected for the core (of the bow limbs) and dried. The horn was then glued to the back of the wood and the limbs were glued to the handle. The ears (the part that curves backwards) were then carved (usually out of spruce because it is light and stiff) and glued to the end of the bow at roughly a forty-five degree angle. The bow was then backed with layers of sinews (often deer leg tendons). Sometimes the joints between the ears and the limbs and the limbs and the handle were also bound with hide. Then the seven bone plaques are cut into rough trapezoids to match the contours of the bow and glued into place. Then the process of tuning the bow begins. Each part of the bow is heated and slowly curved until the entire bow is uniform. All told it can take years to properly make and tune a Hunnic bow if you include the time to cure the wood, sinews, and glue. The two greatest differences between the Hunnic bow and other compound bows are the asymmetry of the arms and the bone stiffeners in the ears and handle. The bone plates are trapezoidal to better fit together along the contours of the bow, and they were deliberately scratched and roughened to ensure the glue would hold. Glue for these bows was often derived from the air bladder of a sturgeon although other glues could
Gun control has been a topic of conversation for a long time. With that comes the issue of gun violence that has taken over America, from concerts and movie theaters to schools and churches, mass shooting have taken many lives. Data has shown that 19 children are hospitalized every day from a gun related injury and 1,300 children are killed each year from gun injuries. And there are many people who are opposite sides of the firearm issue. Some people believe that it is their constitutional right to be able to own as many guns as they want while the opposite side of the spectrum believes that the second amendment should be erased from the constitution and make guns illegal. However, many people on both sides agree that kids need to be taught gun safety.
Nobody wants mass shootings/school shootings, but is gun control really the answer? If you look at the Bill of Rights, the 2nd Amendment states, “A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.” While there was a debate if this actually protected the individuals’ rights to carry guns, the court case D.C vs Heller put that to rest. In that debate, they concluded that the 2nd amendment also included the individual's’ right to keep and bear arms. Also, in the second amendment, it said that this right shall not be infringed upon. So, ask yourself this question again. Is gun control the answer?
I think they should keep gun control because gun control you will be able to protect yourself and your family. If someone robs your house and they have a gun you will be able to protect yourself instead of hide and hope you don’t get found and possibly killed or hurt you have more of a chance of getting hurt if you can’t have conceal and carry or a firearm in your house hold but you should have to take a safety class and have a good background with no felonies or weapon charges and you should only be allowed to walk around with a hand gun in a holster but when it comes to being at home you should be able to have bigger firearms such as shotguns, ar, and 22’s but no full auto guns. People now a day can’t protect their selves from harm and hope
Ever since the creation of the bow and arrow armies have implemented the use of ranged weapons as a staple of battles and wars. The ability to kill enemy soldiers without suffering losses to your own troops was battle changing and was used to great effect during battles in the Medieval ages.
If your family was in a bad situation and going to get hurt. You would use your geun right? What if the government took away guns then what would happen. Gun Control is a problem, U.S citizens need guns for protection. If the U.S has gun control, mass shootings won’t stop it will only get worse. U.S citizens should have guns. To begin, gun control laws won’t stop mass shootings. Chicago has some of the strictest gun control laws in the U.S and just a few weeks ago over 100 people got shot. Criminals don’t follow laws so how do people expect follow gun laws. Of course, people need guns for protection. In the year of 2016, 23,158 people were shot. Only 711 people survived because they had guns for protection.
“The second amendment of The United States Bill of Rights is my concealed weapons permit, period.”- Ted Nugent. Saving lives one by one starts with limiting the purchase, sale, and use of guns in America. According to Alexander Lee, the political and social debate over the question of how much gun control is appropriate and it has been regularly discussed within the last decade. Shootings such as Sandy Hook, and Tucson shootings have raised the government’s awareness on guns and possible restrictions and regulations. Gun talks are discussed with the question, “Will controlling guns cut back on violent crime rates?” Although many guns are open to be sold to the public over 18, there are traditional gun laws that limit who can own them. These laws include sell restrictions to the mentally disabled, the age in which you can obtain a gun, background checks, and dishonorably discharged military personnel. Gun control laws could have a positive effect in America by reducing homicide rates, but at the same time, citizens still have the right to bear arms under the second amendment under the U.S constitution. Gun control laws do not mean the absolute confiscation of guns, but rather reduce the amount of power a gun and the amount of ammo that a gun can hold.
In fact, it’s much easier to become skilled with a rifle than a bow. If you want to boost your skills faster then it’s a better option.
As the Stone Age neared its end, bows began to be invented. They had needed a lot more time and effort to make, but on the upside the hunter didn’t have to be as close to their prey as they did with spears, this way was a much safer to
Although many think that taking away firearms would benefit citizens and keep the United States safer, they are wrong. Guns can and are used for self-defense and home protection. Even if gun manufacturing was stopped throughout the entire world, bad people would still find ways to make their own or find people who could make them. Taking away firearms would prevent good people from protecting themselves, their families, and others. Although guns shouldn’t be completely eradicated, there should be a more thorough process for purchasing them. Firearms should not be taken away, but they should be harder to get for people with bad intentions.
Gun control is not just a single issue, rather has many other issues to it if it is abused by the society. Many people believe that the use of Gun control is a crime issue which can disrupt the peace of society. But to my own perspective, gun control is a safety issues, an educational issue, a racial issue, as well as a political issues, many others. However, within each of these issues mentioned, there are those out there who want more gun control legislation as well as those want less. In other words, on both sides of these issues, opinions ranged from moderate to extreme.
There has been a debate going on for some time now about longbows v crossbows v musket. While the crossbow and musket gave better penetration against plate armor the longbow gave range and rate of fire. A longbow took many years to master. While i think any fool could be taught to fire a crossbow or musket in a very short period of time. Everyone knows how to fire a longbow but not many can ( i have tried and it’s very difficult) It’s said you can dodge or get a shield up against arrow because of low velocity you can see it coming 50 meters a second so at 200 meters you have 4 sec's enough time maybe. At Agincourt there were 5000 archers who could fire 10/12 arrows a min at 200 metres plus allowing for fatigue let's say only fired 6 min that's
"The long, difficult history of gun control." Washington Post. 23 Dec. 2012: A8. eLibrary. Web.
It has killed thousands of people. Even though it was made out wood but it was strong and about man’s height. People started comparing it with machine guns and sniper guns as the way both shoots & kills people in war. Nowadays some people still have skills in longbow and they trained their young ones. During the medieval England it was more popular and used for hunting and warfare in compared to nowadays. Nowadays it just popular in comic book, movies and TV shows. People remember longbow from Hunger Games, Red Riding Hood, Arrow etc. Bow and arrow were also part of Olympics. But on other side in past, people were encouraged or forced to take skills in longbow or any weaponries. So some people carry that skill as their passion. As a result longbow was really helpful during medieval time period for warfare and hunting in England and due to that England has won so many
Gun is a very danger weapon. You only can saw the gun be used in war before but now you can find it in a moderately family. Guns become very cheap and easily to buy. In part of the country, civilian have guns are legal. I think Guns should be control because more gun control laws would reduce gun deaths, guns are rarely used in self-defense and legally owned guns are frequently stolen and used by criminals.
