Outline, planning, revising, rough and final draft, grading. This is the typical process for writing an essay, I however as a young high school student never followed this. I started with an idea in my head and go on from there. I never considered a need to plan and prepare an outline, just to write a rough draft that I would have to revise, draft, and draft again. It would just be easier to start writing the final draft first right? No. This class has taught me many strategies on how to accustom my writing to a college level. Over the semester in this class I have grown, learned how to effectively draft, and experienced argumentative writing first hand.
I, over the semester, have grown in both literacy and critical thinking. A direct comment from Mr. Gish on the first essay I wrote for the class was “Nice reading!” to this sentence in the essay “This continues to show that people in poverty aren’t charity cases, but rather they are human beings.”. This comment, along with others, shows me that I am capable to effectively write in one of the worst essays that I have written. The reason for this growth was the support of both my friends and family. My father would help me with grammatical errors and final revision decisions in some essays. This growth happened slowly with a lot of effort put towards it. An example from my first essay is “First and foremost, Gordon Park’s imagery throughout his composition.” this is the topic sentence to a short paragraph in the beginning of
“Do what you have to do, and send me to the main office.” “I don’t care,” said Alexander, a teenage student who I disciplined in the hallway.
About eight million high school students participate in competitive sports. Making students tryout for sports is hotly-contested because people hold varying opinions on the issue. Some people argue that tryouts are positive due to the fact that they gather together the best team possible. Others argue, however, that tryouts can be harmful for kids playing competitive sports, given that they put unnecessary pressure on students who are stressed enough. Tryouts can have a discouraging impact on self-esteem, make kids worried, and dishearten kids from participating in sports.
My writing process, no matter what, always includes brainstorming, rough drafts and proofreading. When I receive an assignment I read the question over what feels like a million times till I fully understand what it is asking. I will make notes on the handout and as soon as ideas come to my mind i will jot them down, even if I do not end up using them. As soon as I get ideas i role with it, even if I have to go back in the end and change everything. Rough drafts come next. I like to write them out first so i can scribble and make notes to myself and fill things in when i need to. I write in pen so sometimes by drafts can be more rough then they should be, but that is how i like it. After my essay is all finished I proofread, many many times.
Writing can be difficult if not done correctly. That is why there is a writing process to follow. Using some type of way to group ideas together help coordinate how the essay will go. Then once the ideas are put together the rough draft can be formed and edited. After everything has been writing accordantly the essay can then be turned in. Some may think the writing process is just some more additional steps to getting their essay done but overall it makes the writing experience easier and more
Whenever an assignment was given, I used to just write everything that I could think of, similar to a free write. After doing a free write in my scrap notebook, I would then go back and insert examples from the text to further prove my points. After taking this class, I learned that is the incorrect way to write academic papers and that the best way is to make an outline instead so that I can make sure that every point is proven, clear, accurate, and most importantly understandable. I was able to see the improvement of how outlines helped through my first essay. The essay was about picking out an image and explaining its means to the visual context and its impact on culture. My first draft I had learned that I needed to step back and see
Yahoo announced in 2013 that it would no longer offer the option for employees to work remotely. Although technology has evolved and created the ability to work remotely, productivity can diminish if management is not in place to accommodate and support the endeavor. If implemented properly, companies can benefit from employees working remotely by realizing cost savings of office space and utilities, employee retention and broadening their candidate pool. However, working remotely will fail due to management oversite, not hiring the right people, and a lack of communication and collaboration between the company and its employees. In my opinion, Yahoo messed up…big time!
On 7/09/2015, at 1916 hours, I was on duty, in uniform, and driving a marked police vehicle (0913). Off. Martin and I were dispatched to the Gateway Transit Center (115 E Front Street - which is in the city limits of Port Angeles, Clallam County, Washington State) on report that Jodi Schweitzer was trying to start fights with others present.
Same-sex marriage should be marriage because everyone is equal, love is always right, and people have a right to choose their own soulmates. First, equality is a basic right, which means everyone should get the same treatment. The restriction against same-sex marriage is an offense to the dignity of lesbians and gays, because it limits the range of relationship options open to them (Mello). The limit of same-sex marriage is against homosexuals to enjoy the same right as heterosexuals. It is not fair for homosexual to get the different treatment. There is a law to declare that legalizing homosexual marriage is to achieve the basis of equality come true. (Albertson).
After spurning the Erie Otters of the OHL and Frolunda at the beginning of the season, Karlsson opted to try his hand with Skelleftea. There, he performed fine at the junior level as a point-producer, but couldn’t take advantage of minimal icetime in the SHL and opted instead to gain his release and re-join Frolunda, the organization that he grew up in. Karlsson is known as an agitator, and now that he is settled back home, he will be a name to keep an eye on as he
Every June, millions of schoolchildren walk out of their classrooms and head toward summer fun—and academics is the last thing on their mind. And as every teacher will tell you, it can take weeks or even longer to catch kids up to the level they had achieved the year before and settle into making actual progress! With today's challenging curriculum and emphasis on Common Core test scores, can you afford to let your kids fall victim to "summer slide?"
Hunting is considered one of America’s most famous and traditional past times. Fathers around the nation, with high hopes of teaching their children the ropes, are constantly threatened by the chances of hunting being exterminated. For the average person, this problem isn’t established by the threatening blows made on our constitutional amendments; instead, the main threat for your average hunter revolves around finding areas to carry out this tradition. Unfortunately, this problem could very-well be the terminal endpoint of fathers observing their children harvest their first big game animal. As an advocate for hunting and any sport revolving around the great outdoors, I constantly sweat over the thought of one day finding myself unable to pursue a passion that I love, strictly because finding areas to hunt on is nearly impossible because of other people’s actions.
Sexual thoughts pop in and out of most people’s mind, but especially teenagers, and there’s nothing they can do about it. It is normal for teenage boys and girls to experience this, more than ever when they are hitting puberty. The hormones in the body begin to act up and teenagers want to experience other things on their own. Males begin to grow pubic and facial hairs, and their voice starts to deepen, while girls’ breasts begin to develop and their body begins to take shape. After hitting puberty, teenagers are now at the point where they want to experience things. ‚Don’t go out there and get pregnant‛ a mother

It is often assumed that failure is a deterrent to achievement. Rather, failure should be seen as a motivator for a person to keep trying until the objective or aim of a particular mission is fulfilled.
When it came to the essays writing became a little trickier because I had to understand what it was I needed to write about and the style in which I need to write it in. There are nine essay writing methods which I learned while attending this course: exemplification, compare/contrast, cause and effect, proposal, narration, process, division/classification, definition, and argument. The only problems I encountered when trying to write the essays that were assigned to me by the instructor was finding suitable subject matter to write about. Once I found my topics for my essay, everything else became easier. I would first produce a rough draft and then the students, the instructor, and myself would go over them in class and decided if what I was writing was in its best form. Most of my rough drafts needed improvement, but if it didn’t it wouldn’t be a rough draft, so it was understood. My final drafts were very satisfying for me as well as the grades I received on them.
