How would you feel of your right to live was taken from you? Abortion does exactly that, it takes way the right of a child to live. The fetuses in their mother’s womb are killed and cannot do anything about it. Abortion should be illegal because it kills a potential living being, harms the women’s health, demean the value of life and erode responsibility.

Among all the issues that have been fought for or against in the United States, abortion may be one of the most popular issues that Americans are passionate about. Abortion is defined as the removal of the embryo or fetus from the uterus in order to end a pregnancy. Thousands of abortions take place every single day, and yet public opinion remains at a standstill as to whether or not abortion is ethical. Everyone holds different opinions on abortion. The proponents believe that it is the women’s private right to determine the future of the baby in her body. On the other hand, the opponents think a woman does not have the right to decide whether the person that she gives birth should live or die. They believe that life begins at conception. In fact, a person’s stance on the issue is often determined by how he views the fetus: a part of the mother’s body or as a human being. I am an opponent, and I believe abortion is murder. Also, abortion should not be legal because it harms women’s health, affects intimate relationship, and women do not have the right to decide the baby’s right to live or die.

I believe that elective abortion is wrong and should be declared illegal. Abortion should be a last resort, and used only if the life of the mother or baby is at risk. Elective abortion is the interruption of a pregnancy before the twentieth week of gestation. This type of abortion is done at the request of the woman for reasons other than maternal health of fetal disease. The debate over abortion is broken down into different sides: pro-life and pro-choice. Roughly fifty-one percent of people in the United States of America are pro-choice, or believe that women should have unrestricted access to abortion. The other forty-nine percent of people are pro-life, or are against all forms of abortion with no exceptions. There is, however, a select group of pro-life activist who have slightly different views. Some believe that only elective abortion should be made illegal, and exceptions can be made for those who face life-threatening situations during the pregnancy. Pro-choice activist argue that women should have the right to choose whether or not to give birth to the child. Moreover, those activists will point out that a child should not come into the world unwanted. Pro-life activist will argue that abortion eliminates the potential societal contributions of that future human being.
