The atomic bomb, used on Japan, was a scientific breakthrough that changed the course of history. The creation of the atomic bomb in World War 2 was the first ever nuclear weapon. The success of the Trinity Test, the “practice” detonation of the bomb, on July 16, 1945 caused Harry S. Truman to decide that the U.S. would use an atomic bomb on Japan. The actual dropping of the atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki led to the surrender of Japan in World War 2. The dropping of the bombs on Japan was justified because it aided in ending the war, saved lives, and helped The United States get revenge. The Manhattan Project was necessary and it was an essential factor that assisted in the end of the war.

“Fat Man” killed an estimated 40,000 instantly, and approximately 30,000 others later due to radiation. “The very next day, on August 10, Japan announced its intention to surrender, and it did so formally on September 2.” (Compton’s by Britannica, 1-27-2009)
The dropping of the atomic bombs was justified because it helped end the war sooner. The United States had several reasons to back them up that it was not a bad idea to drop the bombs on Japan. The U.S. wanted revenge on Japan for the lives that were lost on December 7, 1941 by the Japanese at Pearl Harbor. If the United States hadn’t dropped the bombs on Japan, the war would have been going on for a while longer, which could have given enough time for Japan, or even Germany, to make develop a nuclear weapons program and possibly bomb the U.S.
It was NECESSARY to drop the bombs on Japan because it saved many American lives and surprisingly Japanese lives, also. Without the use of the “Little Boy” and “Fat Man”, American troops would have been forced to invade Japan and that would have accumulated far more deaths than the bombs. If the American troops would have been forced to invade Japan, there would be around 85,000 more American deaths, and many more Japanese
The end of the war was drawing near, and the Pacific was now the United States’ main focus because a quick defeat of the Japanese was needed. Now, new president, Harry S. Truman, was faced with a huge decision. Should we drop the atomic bomb on Japan? Yes, there were other options, but none would end the war as quickly. So, on August 3, 1945 the world’s first atomic bomb was dropped on the city of Hiroshima, and on August 9, 1945 another atomic bomb was dropped on Nagasaki. I think it was not only a military necessity, but entirely justifiable, because the Japanese were determined not to surrender, it saved lives, both American and Japanese, in led to a fast end of the war, and was the right thing to do.
Secondly, the dropping of the Atomic bomb wasn’t justified is that the Americans were close to beating Japan as they were almost willing to surrender. Japan saw that there was little hope for them winning and realised that surrendering would save lives. The American generals made a statement of what the terms of surrender were to be. However, the Japanese rejected these
The atomic bombs were dropped with purpose of solving diplomatic reasons and to inevitably make Japan surrender. The diplomatic goals the US had at the time was to prevent Russia from joining the war against Japan, but the US wanted to win the war before the USSR joined in order to prevent Stalin from claiming land in Japan and spreading communist influence throughout Asia. So in order to impede the potential spread of Russian influence and communism in postwar Japan, the US had to end the war as soon as possible or else the potential spread of Stalin and the Soviet Union’s influence might bring forth more devastating and graver consequences for the future of the US. The atomic bomb was a diplomatic and intimidating way of keeping the Soviet
During 1941 through 1945 a war had occurred in the Pacific between the Americans and the Japanese this war was called The Pacific Theater. This war was also being fought during the duration of another World War against Germany and Japan but on May 8, 1945 Germany surrendered to the allied powers leaving Japan to still be dealt with. However Japan would not surrender even after the major battles between the Americans and Japanese in Iwo Jima and Okinawa. The Americans then came to conclusion to try and get to a new military weapon which then started the ManHattan Project. The Manhattan Project established a new powerful military weapon known as the Atomic Bomb. This new entirely militarized weapon was designed to force Japan into surrendering because Japan was still willing to fight even though they were on a brink of defeat and they were
When the atomic bombs were dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki all living things in a five square mile radius of where the atomic bombs impacted died instantly, it ended the war and saved thousands lives. The following documents tell you about the importance of dropping the atomic bomb and the thinking behind there strategies. The US wanted Japan to surrender and wanted no more bloodshed and wanted the Soviet Union to be surprised. As stated in document 13 the Americans concern for Japan's unwillingness to resign, “imminent threat of a landing, on Japan proper by us, to convince them of the hopelessness of their situation”1. and again in document 16 shares thoughts for Russia involvement, “atomic attack against Japan would shock the Russians”2 finally document 17 shows the stubbornness of “Japan to agree Japanese leadership would probably not have surrendered if the Truman administration had clarified the status of the emperor when it demanded unconditional surrender prolongation of the war and cost a large number of human lives”3. Although some people think dropping the atomic bombs on Japan wasn’t justified, I think that dropping the atomic bombs on Japan was justified.
I believe that the dropping of the atomic bombs were a necessity to end the war. There are 3 main reasons I believe this. Those reasons are that millions of American and Japanese lives were saved, there was no imminent evidence that Japan was going to surrender, The US was trying to show their power to the USSR.
that did not die immediately suffered severe illness related to the bomb (Hiroshima 1) .
The United States was justified in dropping the atomic bomb on Hiroshima due to the unwarned attack on civilians and docked naval ships at Pearl Harbor by the Japanese. For example, the bomb displayed the power the U.S wielded when they dropped it on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. It showed other countries that the United States had weapons, and would use them. This
Dropping the bomb could kill up to 1 million soldiers. Was it worth it? Dropping the bomb, only over 100,000 people were killed. That’s saving 900,000 lives. I do believe that dropping the bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki was necessary. Here are the reasons why: Japan’s surrender could have ended the war faster, the attacks could have gotten worse as time in the war gained. Japan had already caused great damage to the United States.
In 1945, at the order of President Harry Truman, the United States of America dropped an atomic bomb on the Japanese cities, Hiroshima and Nagasaki, which triggered controversy worldwide. The debate arose between two sides, with one favoring the decision and the other calling it inhumane. Those favoring the decision agreed with President Truman, that dropping the atomic bomb was justified because it ended World War II. Those in favor also believed the bombing was justified because the US had given Japan a chance to surrender before they made the decision to drop the bomb. Those against the decision claimed Japan was ready to surrender and the bombing was unnecessary.
On August 6, 1945, the United States of America dropped an atomic bomb on Hiroshima, Japan. For decades, there have been feuds relating to the justification of the bombing. Was the U.S justified? It depends on your vantage point. The United States was justified due to the unprovoked attack and bombing of Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, which occurred three years prior to the bombing of Hiroshima, it was necessary to stop the war because it saved thousands of American lives. Until then, the fight had never been on United States soil. Innocent men, women and children did not have to worry about being killed on their land until the infamous day: December 7, 1941, the attack of Pearl Harbor. On that day, the
The use of the atomic bomb against Japan was completely justified in both cause and impact. An intense weapon was necessary to force a quick Japanese surrender. The bomb saved thousands upon thousands of American and Japanese lives that would have been lost if the war continued or an invasion occurred. The bomb was the only way to end the suffering of the millions who were being held captive by the Japanese oppressor. The weapon of mass destruction also sent a powerful message to the shaky Soviet allies. The choice to use the atomic bomb was justified because it compelled a Japanese surrender, saved countless lives, served as retribution for the sufferings of many people, and
It was immoral for the United States to drop a bomb when there was opportunities to defeat the Japanese in various ways. The United States could stage a demonstration of the nuclear weapons they could possibly use or even use less violent weapons like smaller bombs. Similarly, another argument was that the atomic bombs saved American lives. “That was the attitude of the United States in those years… I have been convinced that we saved more lives than we took.” (Doc 3) Colonel Tibbets recollected his experiences when dropping the bomb and seemed to be persuaded that dropping an atomic bomb would only have positive effects.
was fully justified in dropping the atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki, because of the unprovoked and brutal attacks on civilians, grounded airplanes, and the docked U.S. Pacific fleet by the Japanese. By retaliating with the atomic bomb to end the war the United States showed the world the power and weapons of mass destruction that it possessed and that it was not afraid to use them. This also issued a warning to the Soviet Union, who at the time was our ally, but was slowly turning into an enemy. In addition to showing the world the United States power, the atomic bombs crushed Japan not just physically, but also morally giving them no other option, but to surrender. Japan was on the edge of surrender with a great amount of inner turmoil, but Japans military leaders had declared no surrender and ordered their people to fight to the death of the last man, woman, and child, so in using the atomic bomb we forced them to the breaking point and saved millions of lives. Without the dropping of the atomic bombs the U.S. would have invaded the Japanese homeland in Operation Downfall where a great slaughter would have ensued. Nearly 500,000 Purple Heart medals were pre-made in anticipation of the invasion, but the atomic bombs saved this massive loss of life. The results brought about by the atomic bombs were very devastating and gruesome; they caused thousands of deaths and injuries and should not be employed except in the most dire
On August 6, 1945 the United States dropped the first atomic bomb on the Japanese city of Hiroshima. This was an extremely controversial military strategy in the United States. Was the United States justified in the dropping of the atomic bomb? The U.S. feared the rise of communism and gave aid to any country against it. The U.S. also fought countries threatening the spread communism. One of these countries was Japan. We began a harsh and brutal war against Japan and against communism. This war was killing many soldiers and Japan was not backing down. President Truman decided to use the atomic bomb when things were getting worse. The decision to use the atomic bomb was a difficult one and many people wonder if it was the right
