Ayn Rand was born with the name Alisa Zinov’yevna Rosenbaum on February 2, 1905 in St. Petersburg, Russia. Rand emigrated to America in 1926 where she worked in Hollywood as a screenwriter. She wrote three novel called: We The Living, The Fountainhead, and Atlas Shrugged. We The Living conveyed the struggle people went through to become individuals in the Soviet Union. The Fountainhead was the story of a famous architect named Howard Roark, and Atlas Shrugged which described several individuals who went on strike which was known as “stopping the motor of the world.” From others Rand feels contempt towards Immanuel Kant. This is because in her opinion his views caused all the metaphysical confusions in modern life. The Russian society had a
It has become blatantly obvious that history repeats itself similar events reoccur and have nearly identical outcomes. The rise and fall of civilization comes as the ocean, rising to its highest point and then falling down to its knees but only to find itself climbing back up again. The book Anthem shows the extent a government and its citizens are willing to go to preserve the idea of a perfect society. But with this great society come sacrifices and challenges the people must find ways to accept, examples are, having complete trust in authority figures, the idea that the group as a whole is more important, and they must accept that there is only one way to achieve this “perfect” society. Through fear and propaganda, the citizens begin to have a closed mind and only see what they are told to see and question nothing.
Ayn Rand, in her 1938 novella “Anthem”, depicts a young man living in a future in which people have lost all knowledge of individualism. Rand creates an underlying warning throughout to those who believe that collectivist societies can ever be successful. She believes that losing sight of individuality will lead to the destruction of all progress. Through a tone of collectivism without individualism, Rand attempts to place emphasis on her beliefs.
In the novel, Anthem by Ayn Rand, it conveys a deep understanding of collectivism. The citizens do not have a voice and freedom, they stay in a tiny bubble in which they can not escape from. The main character Liberty, is different than any other girls by her looks and her thoughts. She is fearless, curious, and determined. Liberty symbolizes change, in the society that does not accept individualism and relies on collectivism. Without Liberty, Equality would not have the courage to explore more of the Uncharted Forest and not give up. “Don’t be afraid of change, it's leading you to a new beginning.”
Ayn Rand’s Anthem is a based in a society where discovery and uniqueness is anything but real, and where thinking for yourself is considered immoral and a sin. The story is told in the point of view of Equality 7-2521, an ordinary street sweeper in a city ruled by a communist regime. Any knowledge about the civilization that existed beforehand (our world) is prohibited, and is punishable. However, Equality was different from the ordinary citizen that lived here. Unlike others, he pondered about how natural phenomena happen, such as thunderstorms. He is curious about the world, and wants discovers that he is meant to do something in this world that is meaningful, not do the laborious job of being a street sweeper for the rest of this life. He stumbles upon a tunnel, and realizing the privacy he now has, he performs scientific experiments, and from this, learns secrets about science that nobody in this Collectivist and communist society.
After moving from soviet Russia to the United States in 1926, Ayn Rand became a well known playwright, author, and philosopher. Rand is well-known for her philosophical system, objectivism. Objectivism stresses that happiness is the most important goal one should have. All of these ideas and philosophies are present in the novel Rand composed, Anthem. In this collectivist society the people act as robots as they carry out their lives with little emotion, limited technology, and the constant threat of punishment. The atmosphere of this novel depicts a society with very rare opposition to the leadership because the people whom it is made up of have no reason to oppose it and since they are constantly threatened with punishments.
Ayn Rand went through her childhood living in communist Russia and used her experiences and own philosophies to help write Anthem. It describes how human nature does not to form societies using systems of government, where private property does not allowed and dictators typically rule, because humans are naturally free thinkers and fight for survival. As proposed by Charles Darwin survival in the animal world is determined by the genes that are passed onto offspring to keep the species or group alive. Dictators with power typically take away many freedoms of their citizens because they can. Humans will constantly search for ways to make their genes the most desirable to produce more offspring, it is not in human nature to be equal to everyone else.
As much as I’d like to be familiar with one mister Ayn Rand and be able to answer this question, I am not whatsoever familiar with Ayn Rand or his writings. So therefore, I cannot answer this question.
While reading this book I was deeply concerned with the totalitarian government they had in place. It reminded me a lot of the book Anthem by Ayn Rand where they also lived in a very oppressive government but to the point that they were not allowed to say the word I and they were all given their job in society. Throughout the whole novel, I questioned how Mae was okay with working for The Circle. I would never be okay with wearing anything that made me fully transparent to anyone and let them see what I was doing at all times. I would not really care if there were SeeChange cameras up around Auburn because I think they could maybe make campus even safer. We already have traffic cameras in place that you can view on the internet whenever you

Ayn Rand's first major success as a writer came with The Fountainhead in 1943. Roark is a reflection of Rand's ideals. His unwillingness to compromise his designs to appease clients, eventually forces him to closedown his office. Ayn Rand stated“ The question isn't who is going to let me; it's who is going to stop me.” By using four competitive architects; Roark,Keating,Francon,Heyer Rand is able to strategically reflect her ideals that she challenges to introduce into society. The habit of being independent and self-reliant reflects the meaning of individualism. The ideal of giving

Ayn Rand was born in St. Petersburg, Russia in early 1905 as Alice Rosenbaum; throughout her early life she read the works of Friedrich Nietzsche, who viewed altruism derogatorily and fostered a sense self-importance and identity. Nietzsche’s views not only influenced Rosenbaum’s own, but they ultimately contributed to establishing a sense of animosity toward her own home country. This is primarily due to the fact that Rand was able to experience the dawn of the Communist Revolution in Russia during
