“Some people wind up in trouble because of bad luck, but others make dangerous choices”, sometimes people do things for important reasons but others don’t, but this isn’t an excuse to hide from the reality and the responsibility for their actions.. This is necessary because many don't think that this is a priority but many people are going through this and it impact their live so much that they are no longer the same person they were before, and this encourages people that are reckless and don’t care about others to be able to do anything crazy because they know that there will be someone else to get them out of their problems. This should be done for many reasons; to begin with you not only endanger yourself but others are affected, secondly …show more content…
“Those who searched for gold during the winter faced temperature well below freezing” in the story To Build a Fire the main character was being stubborn, and ended up going to look for gold by himself. This wasn’t the right thing to do because he completely disobeyed the rules of surviving the cold temperatures. Furthermore the character has mostly no experience with the cold temperatures and was considered a newcomer since he had very little experience. In addition in the Cost Of Survival the author shows a situation in which some hikers would like to go to extremities for maybe popularity and/or fame. “Hikers who get lost or injured because of reckless behavior can be billed for rescue services”. “The “no fear” philosophy pushes people to navigate in the backcountry regardless of the element”, similarly to the character in To Build a Fire many people push themselves to the limit because they try to do something that they may not be capable to do but still do it because they have a fixed mindset and they will not change their mind. This connection between these stubborn characters creates a more reasonable case to enforce something that may make these people come to reality and show that they sometimes can’t do things that are out if their reach.to sumerize there might be situation where you want to do soemthing because it will look cool but you should also think about how …show more content…
This should be enforced more so that the people who know they are not capable of doing things, don’t do it, because they are in a state of panic that can make anyone do something they will regret in the future or at least after their phase is gone. “He realized that he could not kill the dog”, when observing the text To Build A Fire the main character realized that he really messed up and started to overthink things and started to change the way he thought. To clarify, the character started panicking to the thought of death so, since he always had the dog he envied the way the dog was experienced with the cold. This caused him to turn into a totally different person that wanted to kill the dog, he still had this mindset till the end but as common sense a person would do that to an animal due to it not being human like but the pressure of having certain time to live cause the character to do things we wouldn’t do on a normal bases. Lastly “You cannot make intelligent decisions in the wilderness if you do not understand the
“The word "We" is as lime poured over men, which sets and hardens to stone, and crushes all beneath it, and that which is white and that which is black are lost equally in the grey of it. It is the word by which the depraved steal the virtue of the good, by which the weak steal the might of the strong, by which the fools steal the wisdom of the sages” (Rand 66). Anthem is a science fiction book written by Ayn Rand. This book takes place in a futuristic time in which freedom and individual rights have been demolished and substituted by collectivism. Equality 7-2521 has a different perspective on reality than the rest of society and therefore searches to find his way despite many hardships. Within Equality 7-2521’s exploration, he is able to
Above all in the story “To Build a Fire” on paragraph 21, when the man stepped in the hip pool of water he remembered what the old timer had told him, “...that no man travel alone in the Klondike after fifty below.” The man remembered what the old timer had told him because he needed help building his fire so that his feet could dry off. This would be an example of why people should be held accountable for their actions because if the old timer had told the man that no one should travel alone below fifty then why didn’t he ask someone to travel with him on the Yukon trail. Another example would be the story “Survival is your Responsibility”. On paragraph 2 the narrator states that “...wilderness-bound end up depending more and more on equipment and less and less on their own competence to deal with dangerous situations in wilderness setting.” What this is basically saying is that people depend more on equipment and they don’t trust themselves to learn skills for the wilderness. In addition the the story “The Cost of Survival” also proves that people willingly put themselves in life-or-death situations. This story is also an example because
Thesis what worries me about the future ? This question is difficult for others to answer it because their are tennagers who are getting older in life and they think about how their future is going to be. Often the answer changes as you get older. The texts that we looked at are Anthem by Ayn Rand, “Emancipation Proclamation,” by Abraham Lincoln, Prometheus from Greek Mythology, “Critical Thinking video by Leo, and a Socratic Seminar. I am a person who is stubborn and determined person.
In the book Anthem, Equality 7-2521 (Equality) lived in a society where everyone was equal and treated with disrespect. The society had no tolerance for being different and having their own opinion and ideas. People couldn’t even pursue the career they dreamed of having. They were punished for disobeying any of these “rules”. Despite Equality’s strict society, his motivations in conducting his experiments are finding individuality, starting a new revolution, finding freedom, and trying to become a scholar.
Anthem, the futuristic novel pinned by Ayn Rand in 1937 gives light to a very scary place and time. This writing expressed her views and beliefs that the United States would be repeating a dark place of its history. Setting the preface where slavery and dictatorship was once more the social norm. As with most forward thinkers their thoughts and ideas are concerned extreme and not given the validity they deserve until future generation look back into the past. History and human behavior always repeats itself.
In this essay, I am going to compare and constrast the two stories. One is "By the Waters of Babylon" by Stephen Vincent Benet and the other is "Anthem" by Ayn Rand. In "By the Waters of Babylon", the author basically compares and the house of the gods and the Dead Place. In "Anthem", the characters in the story finds an underground place where no one should go.
A. Authors work: Ayn Rand has written many novels, including The Fountainhead, Atlas Shrugged, Night of January 16th, The Virtue of Selfishness, Capitalism: The Unknown Ideal, and her first novel We the Living, Which was written in 1934 and was published in 1936.
Our circumstances do not determine our lives. Instead, our lives are determined by our choices. That is not to say that our lives are not impacted by the country in which we were born, the family which we were born to, or the tragedies which touched our lives. We are given a choice of how we respond to those things, and the power of choice means that the lessons and value of our lives is not determined by outside influences, but instead it is determined by our reaction to those influences.
This topic is relevant in today’s society because the price for climbers having fun might be for those climbers and rescuers losing their lives. If there is an accident or someone gets hurt because of a crime, society should give rescue services. But if someone is doing something that is obviously dangerous and they don’t have the proper training, it is not up to society to help them. So the next time someone is trying to climb Mt. Everest, they should look out for the green

Over the past 30 years, technology has been evolving at a pace faster than we've seen before in recorded human history. The mathematical theory of the Zipf graph would once again be proven true if we could formally quantify these progressions into numbers. Unfortunately, the world isn't so binary. Not everything can be crunched down into pure numbers. What may be a life-saving invention to a farmer could very much be laughable to someone like Elon Musk, whose entire life is built on silicone and solder.
In life, you are born into societies where various ideas or things are thought to be normal and the customs are already established. The novel Anthem by Ayn Rand has many themes, but what I believe the theme of the novel is, to think for yourself. To think for yourself means to make your own decisions and opinions, without depending on other people. I also think that if you are going to think for yourself you can’t worry about what other people will think of what you believe in. Whether you believe that you should only have school a few days a week or you believe in a certain god, no person should feel ashamed for what they believe in. In today’s society and in the society of Anthem, people don’t think for themselves and they just follow people blindly. In the media, today we see what celebrities are saying, who they like, who they dislike, what they use, what they endorse, and we follow them because we want to be like them. Sometimes you don’t realize that you’re not thinking for yourself, but not being able to think for yourself can make you miserable and that is what Equality 7-2521 realized in Anthem.
Brain on Fire being split into three sections made the book extremely interesting. It causes the readers to understand the events of what is happening to Susannah. The structure is meaningful and important because it shows the life story of Susannah without any confusion from the beginning to the end, allowing the readers to follow easily with no hitches. The themes of loyalty and abandonment glided smoothly from the beginning to the end of the novel. The correspondence of the themes and book structure really connect with each other. The fact that in the beginning some friends thought that she was just going crazy and she was not sick goes with the theme of abandonment and the them of loyalty lies at the end when her family and Stephen stuck
We as human beings do desire to know the truth in this world jam-packed with lies and fabrications, Russian novelist Ayn Rand says, “The truth is not for all men, but for only those who seek it.” This novelist is simply stating that it is not every person that seeks the truth and one can’t find it if it is not pursued. Equivalently, a race cannot be expected to be won by a person who does not take the first step, subsequently making it difficult to discover the truth if you do not strive for it. We are unquestionably concealed from the truth, truth hidden for the reason that we haven’t taken the time out to explore deeply or to search for. The way we are wired as human beings, it is disheartening when we find out we have been lied to. Making
Even from homeworld, the news from the rebels had spread. Gems whispered to one another as they wondered about their planet’s fate. Moreover, It didn’t take a very imbellic gem to be cognizant the rebels were succeeding. It commenced with the renegade pearl and eminent Rose Quartz. The duo was enough to arouse fear from Homeworld's population. However, when the aristocratic gem, Sapphire had fused with another and joined the rebels, that was when everything crumpled even further into darkness. The diamonds become austere from there. Therefor, they gathered more quartzes, more than needed, in case of any incident. Conversation was limited, gems of diverse chemical formulas and properties were reduced to slight eye contact, but that was the
