There was bright lightening. They looked up, frightened. Above them black furious clouds started to gather. They began to run. Then the thunder roared, and the rain came down in torrents. <<

Evening had arrived and everything had been packed away ready for its next use. It had also brought the grim warning of a storm. The sky was brimming with a dark shade of grey and black, making the mood eerily mysterious. A storm was brewing; it was about to blow, just like a volcano about to erupt. Then, “Boom!”. A lightning strike crackled across the sky, one after another. After three lightning strikes a downpour of rain fell from the sky.

Next, is the gruesome sound that these storms make when they are causing absolute havoc. It just makes you feel the utmost fear for those you love because you know something is coming. It is deafening to hear the storm at such a close distance. You lose all ability to hear being so close to the storm causing such a fierce pain in your ears. You almost wish that this world was not so cruel, to be able to live peacefully. Instead this world has so many things that can change a person’s life

It’s a scary sight, as rabbits and birds run for their life, the storm gets even closer. All of nature has a grudge against you, as even the wind pelts the soil against your home. Your mother gives you a wet cloth, which you put on your forehead. You still feel the dust, inside your mouth, on your skin, on your teeth, in your breath. You group with your family in complete darkness, and wait for this disaster to end.

As a senior in highschool, one of my future goals is to become either a doctor or an administrator in health sciences. As long as I can remember, I had a fascination with animal documentaries when Animal Planet was very popular. However, then in high school, I was introduced to the Human Body, and it fascinated more than ever. I want to become a doctor because I have the drive to save other people’s lives.

The three parts are the cuticle, the cortex and the medulla. If examined closely, hair strands can play a major part in solving a crime/case. No storm is experienced the same. Seeing a storm on the horizon has the power to stir up gripping memories, introspective thoughts, and convoluted emotions. The poem “Storm Warnings”, by Adrienne Rich, applies a predictable structure paired with flowing syntax, and ambiguous diction- speaking both of weather and emotions- to illustrate that one cannot avoid the tribulations of life, embodied as the approaching storm, but instead prepare for their arrival.

The sound of the rain, as it hit our car, was like that of pins dropping on a metal surface. The intensity of the rain increased as we ventured further into the eye of the storm.
