Barrier Island is a low edge of sand that is parallel to the mainland with a distance of 2 to 19 miles’ off the shoreline, 300 barrier islands border the shore of Cape Cod, Massachusetts, to Padre Island, Texas. The barrier island defends the coast from the full power of storm waves. In the central of the barrier island and the mainland is a peaceful lagoon or a bay. Mainly most of these barrier island are 0.6-3 miles wide and amid from 9-18 miles long. The highest structures example of barrier island are sand dunes with the height of 16-33 feet; however, in some places the dunes can reach the height of 100 feet. Few barrier islands are initiated as spits that were then detached from the inland by upsurge corrosion, rising of sea level resulting
The purpose of the song is to connect Australian citizens to Australia as their home. It is broad enough, meaning that other nationalities can relate to the song and relate the song to their home. However, the main audience of for the text are native, Indigenous Australians and Torres Strait islanders since the song was written in their view. Only three wolves now remain on Michigan’s Isle Royale, down from nine wolves last year, Michigan Technological University reported. This means that one of the most studied wolf packs in the world are in serious danger of extinction. Wolves on Isle Royale in Michigan have fluctuated over the past 50 years going from 11 wolves all the way to 50 in 1980. But now the wolves are at an all time low at only 3 wolves. Isle Royale is a natural habitat that should not be managed by man. Nature should be allowed to take its course, even if it means the loss of the population of wolves of Isle Royale in Michigan.
Along the shores of East Texas a group of barrier Islands guard the Lonestar State from the waters of the Gulf of Mexico. Just north of Padre Island is one of the longest barrier islands abutting the coastal waters. Known as Mustang Island, the 18-mile-long land mass extends from Port Aransas to Corpus Christi. To date, Port Aransas is the only established town on the island. The beautiful port city is home to gorgeous beaches, tranquil breezes, and abundant beach wildlife.
This summer was full of tons of fun activities and places! I went to Tennessee, Mackinac Island, the lake, and went camping. I also did other things like shopping, the fair, the movies, and cheer camp! Something very big that happened this summer is that I became a big sister! Even though becoming a big sister is very memorable, my favorite part of summer was going Mackinac Island and I have so many great memories there that I can’t wait to tell you about!
These are called barrier islands. Most are long and thin, oriented parallel to the shoreline. These islands have many things in common but also have many different characteristics. They all consist of a sandy beach facing the ocean or Gulf with several other habitat zones including dunes, swales, maritime forests, marshes and tidal flats. The specific natural environments vary from island to island. The bays, estuaries and lagoons found behind the islands are typically rich in marine life. The islands serve to protect these ecologically valuable places. These small land masses also protect human communities on the mainland from the destructive energy of tropical storms and hurricanes. Despite their protective function, barrier islands are very dynamic and always on the move. Their formation depends upon the movement of sand by waves, tides and currents, and these forces continue to act on all barrier islands. Many barrier islands are popular vacation sites. Resort towns have been developed on many of these islands. However, attempts to prevent erosional forces from threatening human-built structures are usually
The Isle of Hope is situated southeast of Savannah, USA. It is a census-designated place as part of the Savannah Metropolitan Statistical Area with a population of approximately 2400 in the year 2010. The island is well noted for its historic plantations and exclusive waterfront properties having a unique coastal riverside community which dates back from the 19th to 20th centuries. It's no wonder that Isle of Hope Historic District is the perfect spot and opportunity to spread your wings and explore wisdom in this place. Not only that, you'll be a few minutes away from restaurants such as Sandfly Bar-B-Q- an eatery with a huge serving of best-pulled pork, ribs, sweet potato fries and Brunswick stew in town. Don't forget to drop by Wormsloe
A series of significant events in Australian history leading up to Federation in 1901 brought both positive and negative changes. The two sides of this arch contrast the successes and failures involved in making the nation of Australia. A collage showing scenes of racism towards the Chinese immigrants and the poor treatment of the South Sea Islanders covers the back of the arch. The front of the arch is a formal design, displaying a influential figure that helped shape the nation and also the emblems of six colonies before federation took place.
The newly available Island on the Florida coast will be called Relaxation. The Island of Relaxation will require a new local government to be formed. The Island will also need a judicial system and law enforcement established. The following is my proposal to achieve these items.
In the middle of the Pacific Ocean sits a tiny, remote island. Easter Island takes up 64 square miles and is isolated from the rest of the world. What makes this island so interesting is not it’s size or location, but the large statues found on it. Commonly called Moai statues, they resemble men’s faces and weighed over 80 tons. They were sculpted after the tribal leaders that had died and they sat on platforms to look over the people that lived there to look over after them. These monstrous statues were carved out of a quarry on the island with rocks, which took years, and moved to a certain location. For centuries, this island and its inhabitants were a mystery. Who lived on the island? How did they die? Where did they come from? Why were these statues
I’ve been going to the same summer camp for six years and most years we canoe out to High Island, which is about a mile away from the camp, or a 45 minute paddle. I’ve never had much luck going out to the island. One year it was so windy we had to stop at a town dock and be driven back to camp because the winds were so strong, and the water was so choppy. Another year my canoe was dented, which dramatically affected the tracking so we had to be tied to a counselor's canoe and brought back to camp. With the strong memories of those trips I was worried when my counselor in training program required a three day camping trip to High Island, meaning a canoe trip out with lots of supplies.
There are more resources out farther west that we are excluding from our imperialism. Islands in the pacific have rich untouched resources that we can be taking advantage of. Not only resources but land that we can protect are our country from with military bases scattered across the pacific. Our enemies will have an extremely hard time getting through the minefield of military bases. With these resources and advantages. We could have a huge growth in economy and power. As a country, we should seriously consider moving further west beyond the coast because we would get rich untouched resources, military advantages, and have a huge growth in power and money.
I’ve lived on Long Island my whole life. As a child, I was only allowed to explore in a mile radius of my house. The only time I saw the outside world was when I finished my ridiculously hard homework before dark. When I did visit the city, it was always with my parents. I wasn’t allowed to go anywhere by myself, for the fear that I would get lost. When I was given the opportunity to experience the city by myself with thousands of other teens around the world, I took it immediately. I could explore the city, my own New York, by myself.
Easter Island is a very unique place; it is very far from society. Initially it was

The United States use of island hopping was a key factor in the United States win against Japan at the end of world war 2. By the end of the war, around spring of 1942, Japan had control of many territories. Japan had land around India and leading into china. Japan also had a bunch of islands in the Pacific ocean. Endless battles rained on these islands and land until the defeat of Japan in August of 1945. Japan had a growing military fully committed to Japan winning at least one battle against the United States. During the battles against the United States the Japanese military grew and grew. When one island or area under attack ran out of troops more came. Japan was willing to send as many troops as possible no matter the outcome. Japan was willing to send a troop that might take
