Beauty Is The World 's Number One Distraction

Beauty can be interpreted in many ways and I now realize that beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Modern culture successfully attempts to sway the beholders into believing that there is only one type of beauty, and you are either born with it, or you spend every conscious moment attempting to achieve it. Since there is only a very few lucky people in this world born being what is considered beautiful, the average person believes that if someone is beautiful they must spend such a large portion of their time worrying about their appearance, that they cannot possibly have the time to work on their inner qualities as well. This idea that one can be beautiful, or intelligent/talented makes beauty a curse. Beauty is the world 's number one distraction. It takes people who could be becoming something great and focuses their attention on their appearance. People who are considered beautiful inadvertently cause many people to strive to be more like them. As a child I am always the shortest kid in my grade, and I want nothing more than to be tall like the other kids. Every morning, once I wake up, the first thing I do is measure myself against everything in the house, my dresser, my bookshelf, even the window in the front door, always remembering where my nose was in association with the object the day before. I stubbornly hold onto the slightest hopes that I might have noticeably grown throughout the night, regardless of my father telling me it is impossible to notice
