The Parasite: Cimex lectularius goes by many names such as “Crimson Rambler”, “Night Rider” or the “Red Coat”. North Americans know them as the common bedbug. They are a human skin parasite that belongs to the Cimiciade family. Bed bugs are hematophagous arthropods. They are small usually have an appearance of brownish color and flat shape. The adolescent bed bugs are called nymphs. They are much smaller and translucent than the adult and can be white or yellowish in color. When having recently fed the nymph will be a reddish color. Although bedbugs feed on blood and flesh of their host and are capable of pathogen transmission. Only one disease that has sufficient evidence to support transmission Trypanosama cruzi (T.cruzi or Chagas disease). Indications and Symptoms: Bedbugs can be quite difficult to identify due to their size and habit of staying hidden. They fear lit areas and hide in small dark areas.
