Nurse tech is defined as “works with elderly, disabled, and inform patients to help them perform routine daily tasks. They may also perform basic medical tasks, such as taking and recording vital signs.” (study.com) Working in an emergency room can be challenging and very high pace working environment. My job is consists of stocking supplies, helping nurses and doctors one on one, helping patients when they need assistants, and check patients in. It also depends on the mood of the nurses and doctors which makes it a fun environment to work in, but there is times I ask myself “Have I made a mistake being an ER tech?”. I knew nothing about this field, let alone how to put a blood pressure cup on. On top of that, I had to work a twelve hour shift, on my feet. I would always get home so tired and my feet killing me. It is a fast pace working environment where I have to know the equipment and the supplies. I have to know where the supplies and equipment are kept so when I am asked I know where to locate it. Which that is the hardest part about being a technician, because there is so many supplies that you have to learn about. I have also learn not to do so many errands at the same time. This is so I can stay on track with my work and avoid making mistakes. There was once a technician that did I pregnancy test on a patient, and she didn't wait five minutes to read the results. She charted a negative pregnancy test. So the patient went down to get a cat scan done. Finally when the patient was already discharged the nurse went into the room where she was being taken care of, to learn that the pregnancy test was positive. By this point, the patient has already gotten a cat scan done, which your not suppose to have if you're pregnant. The charge nurse had to write a report on it. All because a technician was rushing to do more than one errand. I also learned to tell nurses that I’m busy helping other nurses with other things. Unless whatever the nurse asked me to do was not
