Ancient epic heroes have lasted many years and throughout many different cultures. They are common even in today’s age. These heroes have had an impact on how characters in a movie or comic book are portrayed. Beowulf, for example, is an epic hero that is still discussed to this day by english teachers all around the country. Beowulf is a strong and mighty warrior who is brave throughout the epic Beowulf. Beowulf's values in life and larger than life characteristics are what set him apart from a normal warrior. Beowulf should be viewed as a hero in our world today because of the great strength, the undeniable will to fight, and the bravery that is shown in the battles that Beowulf faces. Beowulf fought hundreds of demons and never shied from a battle. Beowulf’s bravery is depicted all throughout the poem. Beowulf immediately boarded onto a boat to head to Herot and fight Grendel to save the Danes. Beowulf was never afraid to fight Grendel. Beowulf’s bravery is also illustrated in the poem when Beowulf took no time at all to hunt down Grendel’s Mother into the lake after Beowulf had heard the news of her attacks. The poet says,”He leaped into the lake, would not wait for anyone’s answer; the heaving water covered him over. For hours he sank through the waves; at last he saw the mud of the bottom. And all at once the greedy she-wolf who’d ruled those waters for half a hundred years discovered him…” Beowulf was never afraid in this text. There was nothing but the will to kill, the will to protect and the desire to earn fame in Beowulf’s heart throughout this poem. This is also pictured in the text when Beowulf walked up to the tower to fight the dragon, because no one had ever been brave enough to confront the dragon. Beowulf’s awe-inspiring bravery all through this poem has proven himself as a thunderous hero in this
