“The saddest thing about betrayal is that it never comes from our enemies”. Betrayal is defined as the breaking or violation of a trust or confidence that produces conflict within a relationship between individuals such as friends, family members, or team mates. The people we trust or rely on are the ones who are capable of betraying us. By disregarding or not respecting certain relationships with people, our sense of loyalty can be destroyed. Some acts of betrayal can result in short term success, sometimes acts of betrayal may be the ultimate downfall of an individual. As interpreted in both Macbeth and The Lion King, many deeds of betrayal are acted upon, dismantling a number of relationships creating the success to be either a short term success or an epic failure in the long term. When we gain success from undertaking an act of betrayal, it may only be for a shorter time period than we suppose. “Long live the king.” Scar’s deep and firm tone which is used before he lets Mufasa fall to his death, gives the audience warning that Scar is about to betray his own brother so that he can take over the royal throne of Pride Rock through the use of dramatic irony and alliteration. His rich, manly voice scares the audience, giving them a terrified feeling that Scar would do such a thing to his own brother. A close up of Mufasa and Scar. The camera angle used in the film just before Mufasa dies, features Scar’s wide open, yellow eyes, staring into the terrified eyes of Mufasa, verifies that Scar is about to succeed in his act of betrayal by letting go of his brother, allowing him to fall to his death. In this act of betrayal against his brother to take over as the King of Pride Rock, Scar has consequently ended in victory, despite the fact that this does not always happen so
