“The saddest thing about betrayal is that it never comes from our enemies”. Betrayal is defined as the breaking or violation of a trust or confidence that produces conflict within a relationship between individuals such as friends, family members, or team mates. The people we trust or rely on are the ones who are capable of betraying us. By disregarding or not respecting certain relationships with people, our sense of loyalty can be destroyed. Some acts of betrayal can result in short term success, sometimes acts of betrayal may be the ultimate downfall of an individual. As interpreted in both Macbeth and The Lion King, many deeds of betrayal are acted upon, dismantling a number of relationships creating the success to be either a short term success or an epic failure in the long term. When we gain success from undertaking an act of betrayal, it may only be for a shorter time period than we suppose. “Long live the king.” Scar’s deep and firm tone which is used before he lets Mufasa fall to his death, gives the audience warning that Scar is about to betray his own brother so that he can take over the royal throne of Pride Rock through the use of dramatic irony and alliteration. His rich, manly voice scares the audience, giving them a terrified feeling that Scar would do such a thing to his own brother. A close up of Mufasa and Scar. The camera angle used in the film just before Mufasa dies, features Scar’s wide open, yellow eyes, staring into the terrified eyes of Mufasa, verifies that Scar is about to succeed in his act of betrayal by letting go of his brother, allowing him to fall to his death. In this act of betrayal against his brother to take over as the King of Pride Rock, Scar has consequently ended in victory, despite the fact that this does not always happen so
In the novel, The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe, betrayal takes place in many situations and it is almost always followed by forgiveness. Some of the motives behind the betrayal in the novel include- fear, spite, temptation, pride, selfishness, and doing what is right. In C.S. In the 17th Century, when Macbeth was written , loyalty was highly regarded and had great value. The gunpowder plot in 1605, against King James I, shocked everybody . Treason against your own country was regarded as one of the worst crimes a person can commit and this is why Guy Fawkes was hung, drawn and quartered. In the play “Macbeth”, Shakespeare makes the themes of loyalty and family very clear to the audience in the first few scenes in the play. There are many examples of characters that were loyal and trusted, but that turned their back on the people that trusted them. With this becoming the case, it becomes very hard for people to put faith in others as in an instant they could turn their back and try and act on what they truly believe in.
Betrayal is common when somebody has more power than the other individual. Geoffrey Trease did the title of the novel “Cue for Treason” justice and he kept the significance of it in many ways. First of all, the conspirators and villagers of England did not like the changes that Queen Elizabeth I was making and they started turning against her. Secondly, the treason is that Sir Philip Morton and other conspirators are planning to overthrow the government. Lastly, the cue for the assassination was very well planned out by the ruthless landlord as well as the other men involved.
Deception and Betrayal in William Shakespeare's Macbeth The play ‘Macbeth” written by William Shakespeare” not only shows us how betrayal and deception undermines society but how it restores the moral law and society back to the way it was before the Thane of Cawdor and the tyrant Macbeth brought about the destruction in the first place. the play Macbeth also featured two changes to the throne of Scotland, both as a result of betrayal, deception, the aid of the weird sisters and the death of kings, the fate of Scotland changed for better and for worse.
A common theme from the book Pudd’nhead Wilson by Mark Twain is betrayal. In the book the theme is shown by betrayal can come from anyone, even a person’s loved one’s. One example of betrayal is when Tom breaks his promise to Roxy and sells her down the river. It is stated “In almost no time his flowing reasonings carried him to the point of even half believing he was doing Roxy a splendid surreptitious service in selling her ‘down the river’” (Twain 98). Tom promised Roxy he would sell her up the river to a nice slave owner, and that promise quickly goes down the drain when he sells her to a planter down the river. Tom betrays his own mother, so quickly and doesn’t even feel half bad about it. In the story Tom also betrays Judge Driscoll,
For instance, people think they can trust their friends then find out that their friends betrays them. For example, Sam told Emma her deepest, darkest secret, and Sam thought that Emma would keep the secret to herself. Then Sam found out that Emma told all of her other friends. This devastated Sam, and she realized that you can’t trust everyone. Furthermore, betrayal can come in way different ways. Like, when my brother and his girlfriend talk about me behind my back. This shows that they betrayed me by saying things behind my back and not to my face. If someone was to say something behind your back you would lose trust in
Instead of contributing to our own opinions, we tend to easily follow others'. Before a society, government, political system or shakespear even happened, there always remained betrayal with tricks behind it. Adam and Eve went against God, also betraying eachother. Eve easily persuaded by the serpant, leads her partner Adam to tag along. Paradoxically when time began, these modern humanly actions occured. Therefore betrayal is an automatic act and the cruelty indicates how humanity is considered. Shakespear can argue that the human conditions level to the point where one can betray another- specifically a close companion, living with the guilt forever or maybe feeling no guilt at all. Like any other, Brutus felt guilty.
Another example betrayal of trust is when Louis left Prior and ends their relationship. Prior and Louis have been living together for four and a half years. “I have to find some way to save myself,” Louis explains to Prior why he is leaving him (Kushner 79). Prior feels betrayed because Louis leaves him at the worst time, struggling to fight against his illness; and ending their

Betrayal is an honor given only to those one holds dear. In the play “Hamlet” by William Shakespeare, Loyalty and Betrayal were constant occurrences in the life of Hamlet. There were many people that Hamlet trusted in his life such as Queen Gertrude, Ophelia, and his friend Horatio but this was before the death of his father.
The greatest enemy of the trusting and the loyal, betrayal is friend only to the greedy and ostentatious. Historically, betrayal has brought about some of the most significant changes the world has ever seen. Julius Caesar was betrayed by not only his fellow senators but his own adopted son Marcus Brutus as well. This would lead to the tyrant's death and as a result, Rome would suffer. In Othello by William Shakespeare, a powerful man is brought down by those he believed trustworthy.
Countless examples of betrayal can be found throughout history such as Judas betraying Jesus or Hernan Cortes separating from his captain due to the desire of attaining personal glory. One example that hits close to home is that of Felix Delacey and the Turk. Felix was
