The Constitution and the Amendments are two very important documents that are needed in order to keep the people of America in order. The purpose of the Constitution is to, “form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity” (Constitution Preamble). The purpose of the Bill of Rights and the 17 Amendments, bringing the total to 27, are to protect the rights of the people of America and to prevent the government from having full control over the people.

The Bill of Rights is one of the most important things in the American government .The Bill of Rights has 10 Amendments. The fifth one however is one of the important one. The fifth Amendment deals with police procedures. Along with basic Constitutional limits, or in other words guidelines that Congress has to follow. The Fifth Amendment is a one of the most important Amendments because it gives people the rights to speech and privacy, the fifth doesn’t let people be charged with the same felony twice, and it gives citizens the right to a fair trial.

     The first and inargueably the most significant of the amendments to our Constitution is the First Amendment. The amendment that established our freedoms as citizens of our new confederation. The Bill of Rights and Declaration of the Rights of Man and Citizen are based on the same principles of natural rights; therefore each document is similar in protecting the people's natural rights. However, despite their similarities, their differences are apparent due to the social situations in which they were adopted. The first and the most significant of the amendments to our Constitution is the First Amendment. "The amendment that established our freedoms as citizens of our new confederation." The First Amendment insures freedom of speech and of the press.

The Bill of Rights contains 10 amendments that were designed to protect the people and prevent an over powerful government. There are 3 amendments that are absolutely needed in order for the government to protect the people. That being said the 3 amendments that the people absolutely need are the 1st, 10th, and 2nd amendments. We need the 1st amendment because without freedom of speech, press, assembly, religion, and petition, there is no personal liberty, and without it, we wouldn’t be allowed to disagree with the government. The 10th amendment prohibits the government from becoming too large and taking over the states, and that’s important because without that, the government could easily take over the United States, and not be punished.

The Bill of Rights is supposed to to guarantee American citizens certain personal freedoms and is supposed to protect citizens from police, military, and the judicial branches. The Second Amendment is making headlines these days. The Second Amendment states, A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed. This Amendment was ratified in December of 1791. This amendment was proposed by James Madison, after the constitution was ratified. “James Madison originally proposed the Second Amendment shortly after the Constitution was officially ratified as a way to provide more power to state militias…” (Brooks, The Second Amendment and the Right to Bear Arms) The latest court case on the Second Amendment is the Peruta v. California “case”. But that was turned down the case. The Second Amendment is important because it provides self defense, enables U.S. citizens to hunt for food, and it allows for citizens of states in the U.S. to form militias.

The Second Amendment to the Constitution gave United States citizens the right to bear arms. Although, the Second Amendment stated: “A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms. However, the framers could not foresee the type of violence we have in our cities today. Innocent citizens have and are being brutally killed due to this amendment. Stricter gun control laws must be enacted to receive these types of weapons.

The second amendment was likely created because while Britain had ruled America, there was a standing army in the colonies. The Americans no longer trusted standing armies. Instead, they had they had state militias that made up of volunteers. This is important because it helps insure that tyranny will not occur by spreading out the privilege of governing military forces to officials that are elected by the people. The second right protected in the second amendment is the right to bear arms. There is has been much debate over the meaning of this part of the amendment. While some people believe that owning guns protects the right to self-defense, others think that, unlike the time that this bill was passed, personal gun are not necessary to Americans’

After the Revolution, the States adopted their own constitutions, many of which contained a Bill of Rights. The Americans still faced the challenge of creating a central government for their new nation. In 1777 the Continental Congress adopted the Articles of Confederation, which were ratified in 1781. Under the Articles, the states retained their “sovereignty, freedom and independence,” while the national government was kept weak and inferior. Over the next few years it became evident that the system of government that had been chosen was not strong enough to completely settle and defend the frontier, regulating trade, currency and commerce, and organizing thirteen states into one union.

The main responsibility shared by an American citizen is to defend the Constitution. Over the years many cases have come up where we have needed to defend the Constitution. When people are defending the Constitution, they look to one or more of the twenty-seven amendments and what laws may or may not be violated. The first ten amendments of the Constitution are known as the Bill of Rights. The Bill of Rights pertain to the personal rights of how people should be treated in most situations. These amendments

The Bill of Rights extends to all citizens and will not discriminate based on the changes of the world. The First Amendment is no exception. If one type of speech is put under scrutiny and mandated, so can the other. Regardless, if a message is offensive or not should not determine if our rights, as a whole, should be taken away. For these reasons, they should be allowed to speak their views.

This amendment is important because it gives the rights for the people to express themselves with their opinion and to let their voices be heard. It is great to have this amendment in our constitution. We all need to express ourselves in our own way because we all think
