His parents were unhappy with each other, and soon divorced. That following summer, he stayed with his father, which gave him an opportunity that got him to be a star.
He finished high school with a C average. After high school, he went to Long Beach College, as it was close to Hollywood. Soon, he got an apprenticeship at Universal Studios and learned a lot more about filming, such as editing. Though, his studies at Long Beach suffered greatly as he was much more interested in movies than regular, boring classes. After helping to create several movies for Universal, he got a chance to direct a TV film, Duel, in 1970. Unlike other TV films, it was a gigantic success, especially to the critics. He also worked on another project, The Sugarland Express, which was a mixed success. But by that time it came out, he was already working on Jaws. Jaws soon became a smash hit! It quickly passed The Godfather as the most successful movie of all time (at that time). Soon after, he followed up his great success with another hit, Close Encounters of the 3rd Kind. Continuing with his run, he made Raiders of the Lost Ark, and E.T., which became classics. (ET became the highest grossing movie of all time, but was soon surpassed by Jurassic Park.) Even after that, he created a sequel to Raiders, which became The Temple of Doom, making him top notch. After making other hits, he created Jurassic Park which revolutionized movies.
