Firstly this book is narrated by the personification of Death himself and is seen through his perspective. Not only does this allow us a unique perspective but it provides us with a wider view of the current events of the world and allows us a more unbiased look into the core of human nature. The characters in this book are also easy to like. You often find yourself sympathising with characters not necessarily portrayed as good. One of the major themes in this book is both the kindness and cruelty of humans. As mentioned above this book is narrated by Death, and as such the actions of humans are often viewed differently to the way we see them. Death is often disgusted by the ways of humans and finds reprieve only in those like Liesel, People who despite incredible suffering still manage to retain some humanity. This book also deals with some very important political topics. It gives us an insight into the way words can influence us and how the power one man has over a nation can bring devastating effects. It also shows the struggles of both those who did support the Nazi regime and those who didn’t, something that very few holocaust novels manage to

Liesel meminger , and Rosa hubermann and , Hans huberman , Max vandenburg . The Book Thief is steeped in war. It's set primarily between 1939 and 1943 in Nazi Germany. Both the Holocaust and World War II are going on at this time. Warfare shapes the characters' lives and impact their choices.
She comforts her neighbors with her words and stories during air raids. Liesel ends up taking an empty book and writes the story of her life, ending with the line “I have hated the words and i have loved, and I hope I have made them right.” This line sparks liesel's realization of the manipulative power of words and pushes her to write for compassionate use and make words “right”. Although the novel does not portray the importance of words deeply, it makes it clear that words can spread ideas and suggests that power can be dangerous. The Holocaust is a war fought with words.
Do you like war? Do you despise war? Have you ever attempted to help someone during a war, probably not though? In The Book Thief, there is a girl named Liesel who were adopted by Hans and Rosa Hubermann and they helped harbor a Jew during WWII. In The Things They Carried, is about a soldier named Jimmy Cross who adores an English major named Martha and then one of the soldiers’ gets shot and assassinated which makes Jimmy forget about Martha and become a better leader. In The Book Thief and The Things They Carried have some similarities and differences and some of them I’ll explain with literary devices. The theme for The Book Thief is death/war/brutality and the theme for The Things They Carried is to focus on what’s more important than yourself.
In story Death also gives the snapshots of World War II. Through Death as a narrator, story gets a unique touch in it. Death explained a different point of view about all the deaths occur in that period of time. Somewhere Deaths tried to explain the nature of humans, as he said “I guess humans like to watch a little destruction. Sand castles, houses of cards, that’s where they begin. Their great skill is their capacity to escalate.” And this way Death analyzed the humans and their nature and their appetite for destruction

Of course, it does not work as Death questions Liesel’s struggle to restore her fallen brother. Thereafter, Lisel picks
It’s interesting to see Death’s perspective and view on humans change throughout the book. At the beginning, it was almost sarcastic or lighthearted but at the end it realizes how terrible the human race actually is. “I am haunted by the humans” was the last line of the novel and it is such a hard hitting sentence (Zuask 550).
Death: Death is an omniscient narrator that can describe all the characters’ thoughts, feelings, and emotions. At the beginning of the book, he seems cruel, but as the reader continues, you will find that Death is actually tired of all the sadness and suffering that he has seen over the years. Death is exhausted from all the souls he has carried and finds hope in Liesel’s life story. In the book, he describes how he looks like:
