The sixth unit, named Zeta, was secretly implanted with a special module by Dr. Selig. It was designed to act as a conscience and force it to rethink its decisions. He had plans for Zeta, however they were never carried out since the module never activated. Zeta was ordered to replace an accountant named Eugene Dolan under accusations that he had ties to a terrorist network known as Brother's Day. Zeta discovered one of Dolan's clients was a charitable front owned by a terrorist group known as Brother's Day. Unable to find enough intelligence, Zeta's NSA liaison ordered it to infiltrate the Dolan household. After interacting with Becca and Adrian Dolan, Zeta's conscience module activated. Zeta realized Dolan was innocent and didn't know he
In chapter two of The Cultures of American Film, the main focus is the establishment of studios. As demand for films rose in the early 1900’s, production companies needed to expand; this lead to the creation of large scale studios.
How many 40-year-old unemployed slackers do you know? Now imagine 2 of them under the same roof obnoxiously fighting about childish things. Step Brothers from start to finish is exactly this displaying 2 outrageously comical actors in Will Ferrell and John C Reilly bickering back and forth trying to learn how to cope with one another. The glory of this film comes from the constant one liners that make no sense but fit the film perfectly, the childish behavior, and the elementary school comebacks mixed in with the adult language which adds a different but great comical sense that few movies have been able to portray before. Such as when Ferrell refers to Reilly as a “Big, fat, curly-headed f***”. This line had me rolling on the floor due to the seriousness of Ferrell and the reaction of Reilly and the fact that it is a simple 3rd grade insult with an F-bomb thrown in there that just makes it all that more funny. Although Talladega Nights and the Anchorman trilogy had better storylines none compare to the pure comedy that Step Brothers provides. Step Brothers is Will Ferrell’s most entertaining movie made to date, and is one that can be watched over and over without losing its humor.
The film O brother, where art thou? is set in the Great Depression of the 1930’s and emphasizes the struggle between the upper and lower classes by using a variety of cinematic devices. Through the use of these cinematic devices and comedic relief the realities of the Depression are viewed without creating a stark, melancholy, documentary-styled film. Examples in this film of these cinematic devices used to show these realities include:
“Pain is weakness leaving the body.” Some kids play sports to have fun whereas others play sports to become elite athletes. The youth playing in the Texas Youth Football Association have no choice but to play and train like elite athletes. The film, Friday Night Tykes, illustrates how the youth are pushed passed their limits to become successful football players and successful teams.
During the end of the 3rd Century, the Playwright Plautus wrote many of the first Roman comedies. A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum is a musical comedy film adaptation of Plautus's comedies.Set in ancient Rome, many aspects of Roman theatre, including stock characters, were included in the film’s production. While the film is based off of multiple comedies, Plautus's Pseudolus character Calidorus is nearly identical to the film’s Hero. During the time Pseudolus was written, the Crisis of the Third Century led to up to 25% of Roman population being comprised of slaves(Southern). Of the many stock characters Platus included in his comedies, Calidorus/Hero, the son of Pseudolus’s owner and the stock character adulescens, best
The Opening Sequence of the Coen Brothers' Movie O brother Where art Thou? 'O brother where art thou?' has a unique storyline based on Homer's classic tale of 'The Odyssey', which is one story made up of short 'chapters', each relating a different adventure. In this story Ulysses, (who Everett McGill is based on) and his companions (who are the two men, Delmar and Pete, chained to Everett) are trying to get back home, however they anger the Gods and their journey is lengthened.
Brother Future the movie is a very empowering film that teaches you to cherish friendship and to understand your culture. A guy by the name TJ was selling items to one of his boys from the street. The police called them over to where they parked the cruiser. However Tj took off running. The police started chasing him. While TJ was running crossed the street he got hit by a car. He later then woke up in Charleston, South Carolina on the edge of a plantation in 1822. He was captured by horsemen patrolmen and taken into town be sold off at an auction. At first he did not understand where he was let alone what he was doing there; he then came to the conclusion that it was a dream, but later realized that he wasn’t dreaming. After many attempts
In the movie boys of St. Vincent’s it shows how One of the biggest reason why child and adolescent victims may be reluctant to cooperate with the criminal justice system is that they are afraid of what their attacker may do to them if they report the attack, in the movie Brother Peter Lavin frightened the kids telling them that if they say something to the police they would end up in the street. Also when 10 year old Kevin Reevey say to brother Lavin that his not his mother brother Lavin “punish” him by beaten him, so we can assume that Kevin is terrified to say something against Brother Lavin because he is afraid of all the physical abuse he may receive thinking that if he speaks against brother Lavin the punishment is going to be even
Since the beginning of the Industrial Age, Americans have idealized the journey towards economic success. One thing people do not realize, however, is that that journey is not the same for every individual. For Charles Foster Kane (Orson Welles), the main character of Citizen Kane, directed by Orson Welles, the path towards riches and a fulfilled life is being well liked. He serves to please others. He strives for that attention. This view cost him his happiness in the end. In this man’s rise and fall through prosperity, Welles shows the futility of striving solely for likeability.
Stephen, Naomi’s brother, happens to be a very unhappy man even though he feels like he is a well-known and celebrated musician. However, he is troubled despite this outward flourishing and as a result, renounces his Japanese identity entirely. He intentionally expunges the Japanese language from his memory and shows discomfort whenever a habit of speech, food or gesture is exhibited. Apparently, he survived by beating down memories of his childhood and to some extent, becomes unknowable like Naomi in the novel. He completely turned away from his family, ethnicity and his country because of his experience on his family’s separation, racism and internment.
Danny was a normal boy. He went to high school as other kids did. Danny disliked school but “hate” described his opinion too strongly. A couple weeks into his junior year one night—a Monday night, Danny sat at his desk. It was late and having no important task in front of him, Danny slept. How extraordinary!
Omniscient point-of-view is used is the primary POV for each fight, except for two breaks from this pattern in scenes #2 and #4. In #2, the fight is shown from an omniscient POV until Jake lands his KO hit, which we see from his opponent’s POV. With #4, we again see the fight in an omniscient POV until the point in the fight in which both Jake and Sugar Ray are tired, where we see each character’s POV of each other until Sugar Ray defeats Jake and it returns to an omniscient POV.
In an excellent movie from 1992 entitled “A Few Good Men” U.S. Navy Colonel Nathan Jessup (played by Jack Nicholson) tells U.S. Navy Lt. Lawyer Daniel Kaffee (played by Tom Cruise) 3 lines in the dramatic conclusion of a court trial involving a murder of a U.S. Marine. These 3 phrases could be used by nurse managers across the country when they are caught between representing their front line nursing staff and trying to appease upper management personnel during hospital budget discussions. The 3 lines are: “You need me on that wall, you can’t handle the truth, and YES I ordered the CODE RED”. If you have seen the movie you might agree with the analogy. If you have not seen the movie, but are a nurse, more than likely you have
As the protagonists go through many difficulties to accomplish their ambition they use many different ways to travel that help establish the mood of the film. Although the means of travel help establish the mood in both films, the particular means of travel differ, which gives the two films different moods. In Children of Men, there are several different ways the characters get from one place to another. Some examples include driving in a car or bus, and traveling by boat. However, whenever the characters go from places to places they pass through depressing areas, such as war zones or run-down immigrant areas. In addition, each time they travel someone either dies, or another highly depressing event happens. When Theo, Kee, Julian, and Mariam are traveling by car to get somewhere safe, they are ambushed, and Julian is shot. In the middle of the film, Theo, Kee, and the midwife are transported by bus to a refugee camp, where there are people getting off the buses being stripped of their clothes. Finally, at the end of the film when Theo, Kee, and the baby are traveling by boat in the filthy water Theo gets shot and dies, leaving Kee and her baby to be rescued by The Human Project. In each case, the setting sets up the depressing mood when they travel, but the worst events of people dying and horrible images happen during the time the characters are traveling. On the contrary, in Up, Carl travels to Paradise Falls by getting his house to float in the sky by attaching tens of
Toby could feel the eyes of a bull staring through his adolescent body as if he was waving a red flag. His parents had given him the task of filming young Imogen as she blew out the cheap plastic candles on her decadent birthday cake. He steadily held his phone up to Imogen’s petite face in frame. Behind Toby came a throaty growl, “He shouldn’t be on that useless piece of crap! He’s thirteen years old for God’s sake!”.
