The alchemist
The alchemist is a about a boy named Santiago. Now, the boy has a dream of what he wanted to do when he grows up, just like the rest of us, and his dream is to travel the world. And he did travel the world. Until one night, where he has the same dream over and over again. So he goes and finds out what it means. A woman tells him to go after his dream, which is about a treasure in the desert. He goes and he has many adventures there, until he finally finds it. That was a quick summary of the story. Now, what is the theme of this book you may ask. Well the theme is a lot of things, but we’ll use the main one that sums it all up. The theme would be focusing on your personal legend, or

Sure he was scared and at times he thought he was alone, but he just kept thinking about those wise words people said to him, the ones he bumped into, and he kept going after his goal. It seemed like nothing could stop him, even if he was just a “shepherd” that didn’t stop him at all! The moral of the story is to follow your dreams and never give up on that. We don’t do that often, i mean sure we have dreams/goals but do we really go after them? It’s rare that we do, but that’s what “The Alchemist” is trying to teach us, and maybe we should chase our dreams no matter what the consequence is. What’s the conflict you may ask? Well, the conflict is Santiago’s troubles. For example, when he had no money, when he was starving, when he didn’t understand the language because he was far away from “home”. It was a struggle for him to make it through but the conflict did enhance on the story, big time. Without him struggling everything would be too easy and we all know that’s not true. You have to work hard for something you want to achieve, and he did work hard. Everyone always says “nothing is too easy” and this book shows that, that statement is true. There’s always a price or a
Many great authors has a central theme in their books that gives a meaning to the story. The central theme in the book The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho is the author encourages his readers to follow their dreams. Everyone in life has a goal they want to pursue, but many never goes and pursue it. The author relates readers through the plot of the story, as it revolves around a shepherd name Santiago, who is trying to pursue his Personal Legend. Coelho demonstrates the central theme through the different passages revolving Santiago on his journey to reach the dunes, showing readers the struggles and emotion he possesses.
I first heard of The Alchemist, by Paulo Coelho while undergoing cancer treatment. A couple of patients were raving about the book, and I wanted to know what was so special about this book, so decided to read it and I’m glad I did. This book uplifted me and empowered me to fight, and not give up the journey. The Alchemist is an amazing book and should be read by everyone because the characters and conversations in the story will change your view of life. There are lessons of truth and wisdom in this story and it was a pleasure to read. It's about reaching your goals and following your dreams. Alchemy is the act of transforming any base metal into gold and in relation to the story, you can turn your life into gold by using your gifts, whatever
“You can always turn a bad kisser into a good one,” Laura Prepon. Santiago, the main character of Paulo Coelho’s The Alchemist leads a modest and ordinary life as a shepherd. Santiago travelled constantly, exploring the Andalusian terrain. In his travels, Santiago met a woman who interpreted his dreams, and told him his treasure would lie in Egypt at the pyramids. However, Santiago believed that the dream interpreter was a phony, and he continued to herd his sheep. Soon after, he exchanged words with the King of Salem, and Santiago was once again told to venture to Egypt in order to find his treasure. After careful consideration, Santiago sells his precious sheep and begins his journey. An alchemist, somebody who turns lead
Throughout The Alchemist novel, there are several themes. Love is one of the themes that Santiago comes across throughout the novel. In his journey to find his personal legend, he comes across lust and love.
Paolo Coelho said, “And, when you want something, all the universe conspires in helping you to achieve it.” (p.22). Santiago is a clear example of what Coelho asserts because throughout his journey the world goes in his favor in order to get where he desires to be; moreover, if the experience is good or bad the world is still in his favor because he will learn and grow from each moment that he lives through. Santiago will reach his innermost goal stronger and wiser because the universe conspired in helping him being exposed to any type of situation that allowed him to learn from mistakes and/or from a mentor he had. Also, Santiago’s journey can also represent how people attempt for their pursuit of happiness and do what they can to achieve it, yet unlike others
its discussion about recognizing omens and signs, The Alchemist taught me to pay attention when
In the book ‘The Alchemist’ a big theme in the book is that everyone should live their life trying to complete their Personal Legend. This affects everyone in the book at one point or another. Throughout the book, you following the journey of a man, Santiago, trying to follow his personal legend and learn to follow the omens of the earth that are trying to lead him to his treasure. In this essay I am going to be saying how the theme was realistic, how the theme was problematic, and how the theme is shown in each of the main characters.
The Alchemist is a book about how this boy travels with sheep just to find a treasure. The book itself is all about a personal legend, because that is how he got to find these omens was with his personal legend. A personal legend kind of explains what you want to happen in your life and then what you expect to happen because it is something you made for your personal legend.
The Alchemist is a story about a boy that goes by the name of Santiago, a shepherd that had a dream about a treasure at the pyramids, he later goes into town to sell wool one day and meets an old king who knows about his dream. The king refers to Santiago’s dream as his personal legend and that he can find his treasure. The king struck up a deal with the boy, he said if he gave him one-tenth of his sheep that he would tell him how to find his treasure. The king gave the boy two bags to carry that were called Urim and Thummim. Those stones would help him if he ever had trouble reading omens. The boy took a ship to travel to Africa. He went to a bar looking for someone to take him to the pyramids and he found someone that was able to do so. They
The bestseller novel “The Alchemist” by Paulo Coelho is known by many people for its valuable lessons and ideas. However, I am not one of these people as I am not fond of this book.
The main character, Santiago is a shepherd who is well educated. He is well educated because he was preparing for a prestige. I didn’t get why Santiago wants to be a shepherd. The shepherd was a humble career, and prestige was a good career. Shepherds were mostly not educated. The merchant’s daughter asked him how did you learn to read. From that question, I learned that Shepherd is not educated. The only good thing about Shepherd is traveling. Just because of the dream, it is not right to change career. If I was Santiago, I would just keep preparing prestige. The dream is a quiet appealing to one’s taste, but the dream cannot stop my career.
This adventure leads him to leave his home and sell his whole herd of sheep because Santiago is a successful shepherd that has a stable life and job currently. After listening to the advice of the gypsy and other
1 Santiago, for his entire life, devotedly attended the seminar every day in order to become a Catholic priest. However, Santiago was not liked by any student in the seminar at all; fellow students perceived him as a brainwashed, Catholic dweeb.
Throughout his life, Santiago has lived and rested near a sycamore tree. It is right next to an abandoned church. For a living Santiago herds, tends, and guards sheep. Almost every day, he has a dream about a child who tells him that he should travel to the Egyptian pyramids to find hidden riches. Santiago decides to follow his intuition. Along the way, Santiago meets this peculiar man that appears to read minds. He introduced himself to Santiago as the King of Salem. Santiago doesn't believe him. He thinks this is all a hoax. The King of Salem tells him that he should pursue his desires no matter what. Santiago then saw dreams and personal legends from a different outlook. Before Santiago left for his journey, the king gave Santiago two gems.
