Congressman Ruiz serves under the southeastern area of the 36th district of California. The district is located near two small towns called Hemet and Blythe California. The issue of access to state of the art hospitals and facilities would be high on the list of concerns for people living in this area. Small towns like these do not have the funding as the bigger districts. The less people living in the area, the less money is allocated to that district.
Kevin McCarthy was elected to the House of Representatives in 2006 for the twenty-second district of California. He served as a representative for that district from the 110th Congress to the 112th Congress. Since 2013, McCarthy has served as a representative for the twenty-third district of California. When McCarthy was twenty-one years old, he owned Kevin O Deli’s, which was a small business he created. Since there were many taxes that small businesses had to pay, McCarthy decided to work in public service. When he sold his business, he used the money to go to California State University in Bakersfield. He was an intern for Congressman Bill Thomas

César Chávez, a civil rights activist in the mid-1900s, stood up and made his voice heard for what he thought was wrong. In the twentieth century he noticed that farmers were being treated unjustly and he wanted to give them the rights that they deserved. He led many strikes and ended up being a great role model to the farmworkers who wanted more rights and better wages. His voice spoke to the people, especially the farmworkers, about injustice and what is right for them. César Chávez led with determination by fighting for the rights of farmers by orchestrating an organization for worker’s rights, battling the government, and never giving up from his cause.

After doing some research, I found out that District 117 in the House of Representatives has been heavily Democratic for years now. It has been served by Philip Cortez for two years now and is located in South San Antonio in Bexar County. The population is heavily Hispanic plus Black, and the median income is considerably low,

Representative Huffman represents California’s 2nd Congressional District and has done so since his election in 2013. Regionally, the District is located on the coast of Northern California, stretching from North of San Francisco to the California border with Oregon. Furthermore, the District is made up of several counties, including Marin, Mendocino, Humboldt, Del Norte, Trinity, and parts of Sonoma. Because of the lack of large urban centers such as Los Angeles or San Francisco, the district is rather large in terms of area, with most of the population being distributed is some small cities and large towns, such as Windsor, Eureka, and Crescent City.
Since it is gerrymandered, the issues deal with representation of people. The leaders made it that way seeking their own benefit. Despite having 28.1%, Hispanics are not represented well in the committee. Asian also don’t have any representation. Representation is done based on the political advantage. They cut the district boundaries in such a way that it fosters their business rather than people’s sake.

Which makes sense considering he had already dipped his toes in this district in the previous election only to lose to Rosen. There is another republican candidate who has rumored to have show interest in the house seat is Cresent Hardy. A Las Vegas city councilman Stavros Anthony has also been spreading interest in either the third or fourth congressional districts. Currently there are no democrats that have said they would run or have there been any rumors that have come out.

Proposition 140 created term limits for assembly members and state senators. Assembly members are only able to serve three two-year terms or 6 years while state senators are able to serve two four- year terms or 8 years (Van Vechen, 32). Another effect of Proposition 140 was that it limited the allocated budget to legislative staff (Lustig, 62). Proposition 140 is one of the tools that helped undo the reform done by Jessie Unruh in the 1960’s. This is problematic for it hinders the legislature to do their job efficiently by having less staff. Other propositions attempt to change the representation of Californians, which ultimately changes the legislators we see in the legislature. Proposition 118, required redistricting to be approved by two thirds of both chambers. The passage of this proposition would have been catastrophic to redistricting, for it simulates the same problem that the legislature deals with when it comes to passing new revenues. In different propositions, we see that the major effects are the only ones highlighted when in fact, the smaller details of the proposition also have drastic
Diana: The humanitarian crisis at the border due the illegal entrance of thousands of minors without any adult company into the United States is one of the main issues on the agenda at the Capitol in Washington. And to discuss this issue I’m with Congressman Peter King, U.S. Representative for New York's 2nd congressional district. Congressman King thanks for this interview. Congressman, Do you consider the situation at the border as a real humanitarian crisis the way it was called by the President Barack Obama?
