I like how you described how qualitative research is used by the police department. In ems we also use qualitative research in determining the effectiveness of different treatments and polices. We typically use this research in what is called community paramedicine. This is the name of prevention programs to reduce the use of 911 for medical problems that could be avoided, therefore freeing up ambulances and resources for more critical emergencies. Examples of this research would include reducing fall risks. Falls are easily our most frequent 911 complaints and they can typically be avoided. Qualitative research focuses on what causes these falls, such as obstacles and attempting to walk without assistance. Paramedics then take this results
This academic paper will discuss and examine the code of ethics and security case study. This paper will examine police brutality in New Orleans. The case will be examined from the perspective of the four different ethical theories. The four ethical theories are ethical relativism, ethical egoism, deontological ethics, and ontological ethics. The analysis will determine how the different perspectives support or condemn the conduct in the case study. The analysis will reveal which ethical theory resolves the particular ethical issue or issues from Criminal Justice Ethics 2e, Case Study 1.1, Police Brutality in New Orleans.
Making calls to the police does nothing if they do not respond. The response role is a very important aspect of policing. The police have been getting better and better at responding to calls. On some university campuses, the police can respond anywhere between 30 seconds to 2 minutes, that is amazing. There have been big cases in the past where police response times were crucial to the safety of the citizens. The most common response roles are the routine incident response, emergency response, and differential police response.
Frighteningly, last year the UK police dealt with almost 300,000 incidents involving people suffering mental health illnesses! That isn’t to say of course that all of those incidents involved someone breaking the law. Quite often, when a sufferer of mental illness goes into crisis, the first port of call is the police. Are they to become the “Mental Health Police”?
On 02/27/2017, I, Dillon Dickerson, badge #155, was working as a Patrol Officer for the Wichita State University Police Department (WSU PD), in Wichita, Sedgwick County, Kansas. At approximately 2300 hours during our shift briefing second shift advised we may have to do some follow up to a case they had earlier in the shift. Officer Ben Gabel #152 was the one who took the case. Officer Gabel advised there was a Battery case which happened earlier in the day. This case involved two students. Officer Gabel said there may be a male student by the name of Mekeal Simmons making contact with WSU PD. Officer Gable stated the female half of the Battery (Jessica Johnson) would be leaving campus around 0130 hours to return to Texas. Yes, this indeed was a legal stop. This was a legal stop because under the stop and frisk exception police can stop a person on the streets and pat them down for illegal objects, so long as they have suspicion. And, during my midnight shift patrol I found it to be suspicious that these two men were behind a closed business. A business in which has been burglarized in the past. I do believe that stop and pat down was justified. I believe the stop was justified because the suspect did not appear to fit the time or place, as it was midnight and the business was closed. A pat down is to stop any further danger towards an officer and other people. A pat down should only be used to detect concealed weapons or contraband. So, I believe
Black lives matter! There have been so many black lives that have been taken this year. Black on black crimes vs white on white crimes are important to acknowledge. Yes, all live matter but African Americans matter more than others. It’s important to acknowledge the situation involving Alton Sterling, an African American who sold CDs and got shot severally because of a misunderstanding. It’s also important to acknowledge the case involving Dylann Roof, a Caucasian who killed 9 people and is still alive. Then, there’s the questions we ask ourselves: why is there mistreatment and brutality coming from police officers? Why do people stereotype African Americans? These are questions we ask ourselves and these are questions that need to be answered.
The Frontline documentary, Policing the police, makes the argument that there are many problems with police departments across the United States and uses his correspondence with the Newark, New Jersey Police Department to make that point.
Every time a police officers puts on his/her uniform his/her life becomes dangerous. They put their lives in harm’s way to protect the citizens of their town/city. Unfortunately, not every Officer lives to tell their story. Some of them die heroic deaths while others do not. These officers are a symbol of hope for some people, and a symbol of control and tyranny to others. Some honor their code, while others abuse their power, entirely. We all owe a great debt to those who die in the line of duty. In this paper I will be telling you about Chief of police, Steven Eric DiSario. Steven DiSario, was born in Salem, Ohio on February 2, 1979 and died Friday, May 12, 2017. The 38 year old was the Chief of Police in Kirkersville. Eric was married and had a
I completely agree with you Lillie on how all the people that listened to the phony police officer were being obedient.
In society the police officers roles is to effectively enforce laws, police officers are accountable to arrest offenders when they committed crimes, stop all crime to the best of their ability, keeping the peace as much as possible, and also be able to provide services to neighborhoods citizens when needed. The police officers responsibilities can range from a small task to a much dangerous task, some of the people take the police officers for granted. Without polices officers this world would be no good at all crime would be happen from left to right. As the people of the world and community we need to get more involved with, we have to as whole help them as control the crime and maintain orders they can’t do it all by themselves. I truly feel and know that lessened community policing will
