Imagine the year 1348, Medieval Europe on the brink of apocalypse. Towns were completely wiped off the map. Nobles, peasants, Kings and merchants were all infected many dying, few surviving! Today I will be analysing the fakebook page of Cedric Wilford. Cedric Wilford the Noble witnessed the horrible, ghastly event of the Black Death. He lived the life of a Noble serving Lord Edward of Wendover. He was born into a rich family being educated from the age of five in Latin, horse riding, hunting and warfare. But according to Cedric’s Fakebook page his life changed dramatically due to the plague. Although Nobles had access to medicine and doctors, nothing could slow or stop the plague. Life for the Noble class and Cedric Wilford was changed forever. It is evident from Cedric’s Fakebook page that the plague affected the social, economic and religious lives of many medieval people. According to Cedric’s fakebook page during the plague he posted a status update discussing life on the estate. In this status update he requires more peasants to produce more food, but hiring additional hands costs more money. As a result peasants began their rise to power in the economic aspect of Medieval Europe. From his status updates and wall posts it clearly shows how ill-prepared Europe was against the Black Death. No preparation took place for any class nobles although they were in a high class were still subjected to the unhygienic standards and were very susceptible to the disease According to Peter Godfrey – Doctor of Lord Edward life was only to get worse as poor medical knowledge was evident during these times. Finally many nobles resorted to hiding, many discarded their religious beliefs blaming this on the Jews or that God was causing this. In Cedric’s 3rd Status update it talks about nobles starting to lose faith in God, believing that God was behind this. Evidence is shown from Cedric Wilford’s Fakebook that Europe’s feudal structure broke down. In Cedric’s 6th wall post it begins to show the beginning of the ‘Peasants Revolt’ in which the peasants attacked the Upper classes for improved wages and better-quality working conditions. This instigated the breakdown of the feudal society. With peasants gaining more power from the demand of produce many nobles lost power but others gained power from the death of Dukes, Counts and Earls. Secondly after the plague the economic status of Nobles was lowered as the demand for workers (peasants) increased giving them a higher economic status lowering the status of the Upper Classes Nobles. Finally According to Lord Edward’s wall post peasant’s believed that God was deaf and would no longer hear their calls and many Nobles had this belief as well. It is also mentioned in his Fakebook that because of the Church’s inability to explain the Black Death they lost power and followers from all classes. This information demonstrates the influence both before and after the Plague of the significant amount of change which occurred to the Noble
