My Blog About Peak
In my book called Peak there is a character called Peak I think the 3 adjectives my character and I have in common are that we are determined, dedicated, and cautious. In this blog I will be talking in depth on each one. First let me give a quick intro. The book Peak is about a kid who is given the opportunity to climb Mount Everest, and he is trying to summit it.
I think that my character and me share the trait of determination because; when I am training I am determined to finish and complete the drill well. Then in the book Peak, Peak did not give up when climbing to the Advanced Base Camp (A.B.C) or complain that much. Another example is when I was stuck on a really intense practice or challenge or workout …etc. I
The book The 5th Wave is a fictional story that leads the reader through the struggles of the main character, Cassie who strived while surviving a disastrous alien invasion; which is not so much little creatures, as a disease that attacks a persons brain. The world is coming to a collapse and the only way to get rid of this chaos, is to kill off the power source. In the novel The 5th Wave, Rick Yancey centralizes around the idea that courage is key to survival; this is revealed through trusting one's instincts, trusting strangers and believing in oneself.
I was pleased to have attended a lecture cosponsored by the Ethics Center, the Fresno State office of the president, the Fresno Bee and Valley PBS. The lecture began with Dr. Castro recognizing a few leaders on campus, including a past Fresno State president, Dr. John D. Welty and campus volunteer Mary Castro. Dr. Castro then mentioned a few things about Mr. Brooks stating that he is a columnist for the New York Times and an analyst for the PBS “News Hour” and NPR’s “All Things Considered.” Dr. Brooks also teaches at Yale University, one the finest university in the country. Dr. Castro continued by saying that he learned that Mr. Brooks office hours are from 9am to 1pm and how “cool” it sounded to him. I was surprised how many people attended the event. I was fortunate to find a seat. David Brooks mentioned how he has some remote roots in the Central Valley because his father grew in Chowchilla, CA but Mr. Brooks grew in New York.
Jimmy knows too well the agonies of abandonment. First, when his mother, Cecilia, ran away with Richard to pursue a better lifestyle. Then, due to his father’s, Damacio Baca, alcoholisms and violent behavior; he also had to leave Jimmy behind. In spite of the drawbacks from abandonment to being a maximum security prisoner in Arizona State Prison, Jimmy preserver’s the darkness of prison by overcoming his illiteracy. However Cecilia and Damacio is not as fortunate as their child; Cecilia is shot by Richard after confronting him for a divorce and Damacio chokes to death after he is released from the detox center(Baca 263). Therefore the most significant event in this section of the memoir, A Place to Stand by Jimmy Santiago Baca is the death of Jimmy’s parents.
Race and racism are two of the most discussed topics in the book “A Hope in the Unseen”. When Cedric Jennings went to the MIT program during the summer, he was seen as the only “ghetto” student among the other minority students going through the same experience has him. This was mainly because of his ethnicity and his personal background. While he was at Brown University, he was having trouble with his roommate, Rob, because they “didn’t have anything in common,”. One of Cedric’s friends, Chiniqua, tries to encourage him to just hang out with the other black kids but he decides to broaden his horizons by interacting with other ethnicity groups.
Persistence is my defining characteristic and it is an important part of who I am. My parents have best exemplified the value of persistence to me in my upbringing, but first their parents imparted it to them.

(background) In the book “A Lesson Before Dying” A man is sentenced to death for being in the wrong place at the wrong time. He is invited into a car with some people he knows, and they take him to a bar. At the bart they threaten to kill the keeper if he doesn't give them alcohol. They shoot each other, but the Boy (Jefferson) is still alive, and he doesn't know what to do, so he decides to take the money and scram. Two white men come, and he gets put in jail, later to be sentenced to death. Jefferson learned the lesson, to be strong and not worry about the things to come.
The Yellow Wallpaper is a story when you can quickly tell that the narrator is having problems. She begins with simple issues that anyone could easily fix but as time goes on, she begins to have problems that need greater care. She has a baby that she is not allowed to see and is also causing her to develop all there problems. She begins to mention strange things about the wallpaper that isn’t really occurring. I believe that the narrator has postpartum psychosis because of hallucinations and insomnia.
War, “the blood-swollen god” (Crane 27), is one of the most controversial yet beneficial acts to humanity. Many exalt this deity by liturgical forms of media such as video games or entertainment on the television. Nevertheless, their praise cannot eradicate the casualties of war. To further explain, the Iraq War has fluctuated the American economy by costing one trillion dollars and six hundred and fifty thousand people ( Kelley & Ingersoll par 1, Iraq par 3). The depression of lives and money has credited war with several demerits because many citizens would rather live passively in a nation that will be “Okay For Now” (Schmidt 1). Numerous works of literature have narrated differing opinions of war; however, one novel in particular,
It's pretty odd, life that is, when reduced to its basic essence, everything on this planet seems quite odd. The fact that we are made from the insides of stars, and that we live our lives with almost no tangible point rattles the mind. We commit to being authentic to ourselves, but we are also in inauthentic because we fear freedom. In Leo Tolstoy's the death of Ivan Ilyich, and T. S Elliot's love song of J. Alfred Prufrock, the existential concepts of commitment, and authenticity are used to show that living the examined life. Living authentically to avoid living inauthentically, will bring alienation, but in the end, will lead to commitment.
Clearly, Kevin and Max from The Mighty demonstrate mutualism. For instance, Kevin benefits from Max. For example, when Kevin and Max went to the carnival to see the fireworks Kevin was saved by Max from neighborhood bullies by keeping him on top of his shoulders. By putting Kevin on Max’s shoulders he avoids all interaction with fanger and gets around faster and easier. Sure Kevin did tell Max where to go when running away from the bullies, but if it wasn't for Max with all Kevin’s trash talk he would be in serious trouble. Another time when Max helped Kevin when he really needed it was when he had choked on his food in the cafeteria. When Kevin choked on his food Max was the first one to come to his rescue and get him to the hospital. If it
"A raw tale of love and second chances, forgiveness and trust, simmered over an intense flame of smoldering heat and sexual tension." Dii, Tome Tender Book Blog
Tome’s theme this year is, “Make Your Mark,”. This phrase means exactly what it states, to make a difference in a world. I know of two books from the It List that include characters that make a difference. These books are Left Out by Tim Green and The Scourge by Jennifer A. Nielsen.
In the short story “The yellow wallpaper” the author shows a protagonist that is struggling with a mental illness. The way she reveals this to the audience is only through her point of view. The reader is left wondering if her illness is real or just a figment of her imagination. The method in which she does this is with indirect showing what she is seeing and experiencing. With direct characterization the author says that the protagonist is with a mental illness .
Mollie- Mollie is a burden to everyone in Animal Farm, like always she struggles on doing several things. Mollie is always late for work, she dissapears everytime midway while everyone else is working, this shows that she is self centered, she only cares about herself. As always Mollie wants a lot of attention, in the chapter she accepted the luxury treatment from Pilkington as known as Old Farmer’s neighbor, the farmer did several things by stroking Mollie’s coat and feeding her sugar, this shows us that Mollie is unwilling to give up the luxuries that she enjoyed as the wealthy class. Eventually Mollie ran away.
