If scout and Jem’s mother were still alive how would their character play differently in the book? In the book Calpurnia takes care of all what is needed in the house she looks after scout and Jem as if they were her own kids and has food ready for the whole family all the time if scout’s and Jems mom was here Calpurnia wouldn’t have to do as much I feel like the mom would get them ready for school and get their cloths ready for them and she would also help Calpurnia prepare breakfast and dinner I feel like Atticus wouldn’t change much if she was alive he would have more support with his cases on helping the color people in town I feel like she wouldn’t judge him like everyone else she would’ve support him and I feel like if they both raised
In the story To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee, there was a lot of interesting parts and a ton of sign post but since you can only pick 3, the three that I am picking are Again and again, Aha moment and tough questions. In the story the things that mostly came up was how Scout lives her life at school and at home and how they see other people and see what is in her mind when she judges people too. Scout which her real name is Jean Louise lives with her father Atticus and lives with her brother Jem. She is very smart and in the time of the story she is considered a tomboy. Also there mother died when scout was young but Jem still remembers some parts of her and it makes him very unhappy. Scout’s dad atticus is Jem and Scouts father and is the
Calpurnia is pressured to meet the expectations set for both women and blacks in Maycomb society, and in many ways she does a good job at conforming to them. Calpurnia works as a nanny to Jem and Scout, which is a common job for black women. As the only adult woman in the household, Calpurnia,of course, keeps order on all things. She is an excellent cook and very strict towards Scout and Jem. Scout has a knack for getting in trouble, so she often complains about Calpurnia’s ‘tyrannical presence’. Despite this, readers often get a glance at Calpurnia’s maternal side. When Jem tells Scout to start acting like a girl, she flees to Cal for support. Although, she can’t give Scout much advice she is able to comfort her. “I just can’t help it if Mister Jem’s growin’ up. He’s gonna want to be off to himself a lot now, doin’ whatever boys do, so you just come right on in the
In the book To Kill a Mockingbird, Calpurnia can be described as respectful. For example, in chapter 1, Calpurnia and the kids are watching Mr. Radley leaving his house for the last time. “’There goes the meanest man God ever blew breath into,’ murmured Calpurnia, and she spat meditatively into the yard. We looked at her in surprise, for Calpurnia rarely commented on the ways of white people.” Scout and Jem looked at Calpurnia in surprise after she spoke about Mr. Radley, saying that she rarely commented on the ways of white people. This shows that Calpurnia is respectful, since she holds back from commenting about the horrible way white people treat black people, even though it’s wrong. She was most likely polite to Mr. Radley no matter how
“Yo’ folks might be better’n the Cunninghams but it don’t count for nothin’ the way you’re disgracin’ ‘em if you can't act fit to eat at the table you can just sit here and eat in the kitchen!” This is just one of the many examples Calpurnia sets for the children. Calpurnia is the Finch’s cook but she takes her role in the children’s life more seriously. She acts as parent; constantly teaching the kids lessons about life and race. She serves as a bridge for Jem and Scout between the white and black communities. Calpurnia could be the mother Jem and Scout never had because she is wise, caring, and patient with the kids.
Scout in her childhood faces many adversities a child should not have faced. Her mother died when she was two and lived with only male influences, Jem, 10 and
As the novel progresses in chapter 12 Calpurnia calls Jem or Mister Jem as a sign of respect,Cal understands that Jem is twelve and is beginning to understand the adult world.Jem begins to retreat from the childish games that he and Scout used to enjoy, becoming moodier and more withdrawn. Jem’s intense admiration for his father combined with his strong belief in justice.
If Scout and Jems Mother were still alive, How might the following people be different: Atticus, Scout, Jem, Calpurina, and Aunt Alexandra?
Imagine you are a lawyer tasked with an impossible case, and everybody in your community is against you, but still there is a shred of hope you cling to. What might that be you ask? That to which you cling are your morals. In To Kill a Mockingbird Atticus Finch had been given the Tom Robinson case, where a black man was convicted of raping a white woman. As a single father of two children, he continues to reinforce his values throughout the trial and during his daunting task of raising his children. In To Kill A Mockingbird what Harper Lee suggests about the nature of morals is that you should try to stand up for what you believe in even if people oppose or reject your ideals. Even when faced with an insurmountable opposition you should stand up for your morals because in the end if your don't follow your beliefs you are just contributing to the problem. We should try to create a voice for what we believe in and impress that upon the next generation so they can continue to exercise their beliefs to make the world a better place.
In To Kill a Mockingbird Jem and Scout initially feel like they know everything there is to know about those closest to them, like Atticus and Calpurnia. As the story progresses they discover additional information the reveals more about who Atticus and Calpurnia really are. Scout and Jem spend a great deal of time with Calpurnia, and they see her as another adult figure, similar to Aunt Alexandra or Miss Maudie. When they spend more time with Calpurnia throughout the story they see that her life outside of the Finch household is very different from anything they are used to. When Calpurnia takes Jem and Scout to church she starts talking differently. At home she talks as if she is educated; more like a white person. However, at church with
The small town of Maycomb, Alabama gives the outward appearance of being cozy and cheerful, with quirky neighbors and backyards filled with gardens and treehouses. Beneath the small-town charm lies a place that is home to deep racial injustices and townspeople who refuse to acknowledge the damaging power that their racists views hold. In To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee, Jem and Scout spot a dog while looking for small creatures to shoot with their air-rifles. Jem notices immediately that something is wrong, and is wary of the dog’s strange behavior. The children return home and recount the experience to Calpurnia, who calls their father, Atticus, to eliminate the danger and shoot the dog. The mad dog that roams the streets of Maycomb
I think Calpurnia is a good mother figure because the kids appreciate her more, and their love for her is stronger. I think that is most important. As Alexandria comes in she is super awkward, does not know how to make a good conversation. Scout starts to notice that especially. If you cannot talk to your supposedly mother figure, then what is the point. Atticus says how she needs more feminine around the house saying she is getting older so she needs advice on clothes and boys. With Alexandria I feel scout will not get that. They mention how Alexandria fits in to Maycomb really well, but does not fit in with Scout and Jem. Now Calpurnia the kids were always exited to see her, as with Alexandria they did not want her to live with them. Alexandria thinks Calpurnia is too harsh on the children, but kids need discipline sometimes. In the end they always say how they need Calpurnia, so it is an obvious Calpurnia is the mother figure Scout and Jem
How would the book To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee have turned out had Atticus not been there? That is easy. The story would not have happened. What if Miss Maudie had not been a character in the book? This question is not so easy to answer. In the book To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee, Miss Maudie Atkinson plays a large role in the kids’ growing up. Scout, Jem, and Dill need to absorb some ugly things, like extreme racism, at a young age. Along with their dad, Atticus, they are helped through it and influenced by Miss Maudie. Throughout the novel, Miss Maudie is caring towards the kids, joyful, and takes a broad view on the world.
People can be described in many different ways based on their personality. In To Kill a Mockingbird the best way to describe the main characters are through shapes. The reason Jim is a star is because he is a goody two-shoes and does not like to fight. He also wants to do good with his life. He does all that he can to make his father proud. The reason the star was chosen for Jim was because he is the kind of person who would get the golden star in class. Calpurnia represents a square because she is a “basic” Character. She does not have anything special happen to her like all of the other main character's. A square is one of the most “basic” shape so it represents Calpurnia well.
To Kill A Mockingbird is one of the most inspirational books you could ever read. The way Harper Lee sets up several life lessons and creates characters that the reader can relate to is astonishing. Maycomb County is a good example of what life in the 1930’s in the South was like. In To Kill A Mockingbird, Lee shows Calpurnia as strong-willed , brave, respectful and smart to illustrate her views on the black community and racially segregated South during the Great Depression Era.
All living creatures descend from a mother, father, or source of DNA. Both the mother and father will go out of their way to protect and raise their child to have the best life possible. Although both are equally as important to their offspring, a child will form a special bond with the mother upon development and birth, mostly through physical and emotional factors. This maternal bond is maintained and continues to grow stronger as a mother cares for her child and as the child recognizes the consistent guidance. However, a mother might not be capable of being present in some circumstances.
