2) In “How to Write a college essay” by Chris Peterson, he states that “clichés and tropes of college essays" tend to show up in the vast majority of college essays across the board, and this is particularly bad because it makes an essay boring, and similar to others. I also consider this a problem because; you want your essay to be unique, you do not want to write a paper that is easy, and many people choose to write about. Colleges will usually pick an essay that is unique, well written, and present excellent ideas and reflections, and talks a different issue, thet are not going to pick papers like ”Do Videogames Cause Violence?” or “Are we dependent on computers?” because topics like those are extremely basic in all the sense of the word. In order to solve this problem, Peterson suggests first to “be yourself” meaning that it is your essay, and your ideas you are writing about, do …show more content…
Givven such information, we can contemplate the risks that everyone takes by following similar steps to write an essay. Among the steps that Peterson presents, a particular one that I consider could be useful is the rule of “Keeping it simple” by Kurt Vonnegut. This specific rule represents an advice that many students fail to follow. We usually like to explain things to a point in which we are just doing it to fill that plank space of the final page of our essay, I personally advice to few of my friends to avoid this because, it is not necessary, and our readers could take it as an insult from us to explain something that could have been summarized in a few words to a whole paragraph. Considering the information provided above, I too have countless flaws in my
Christmas Eve of 2002, husband, Scott Peterson calls in his wife’s disappearance. His wife, Laci, was eight months pregnant. Four months after the disappearance, the remains of Laci and Conner were found a day apart washed up on the shore of Point Isabel State Park. The bodies were found a day apart. Scott was convicted of the murder of his wife and his unborn baby, but I am convinced that Scott should be walking the streets a free man. I believe he did not murder his expecting wife—his actions were justified by his shock, he was simply enjoying his last month of “non-daddy” freedom, and I think Scott was framed by Laci.
In the first essay, “The Miss Dennis School of Writing,” I liked that it wasn’t only just a story but it also was filled with writing advice. “Pay attention” was the advice that popped up several times throughout the story and it is nice that this time around the teacher wasn’t saying something like, “pay attention to me and the lesson.” She really meant, “pay attention to what is going on around you in the world.” This advice goes deep into description because if you pay attention
After evaluating the essay written by Ed White, it was evident that he was very confident about the popular method used by many writers universally. The five-paragraph theme is highly common and effective in many cases. White believes that teachers have taken advantage of the five-paragraph theme and backs up his opinion with reasoning. He effectively uses rhetorical devices throughout his essay to help support his argument.
Simply spoken, the aging youth are facing a very large dilemma when it comes to making the transition from high school to college level courses. As many have been taught in the past, just as many will be taught in the future, the commonly known 5-paragraph essay is quickly becoming an eyesore in the writer’s community. John Warner published an article in which he deploys a full on assault to persuade others to do away with this type of essay format all together. In his article “Kill the 5-paragraph Essay” Warner establishes his credibility, paints an imaginary picture of the 5-paragraph essay and uses logical and emotional
The Author Reid, E Shelley states the importance of writing, and the tools that college students have in order to create a well-organized, legible and informative essay. The article “Ten Ways to Think about Writing: Metaphoric Musings for College Writing Students” is divided in ten general principles of writing, showing clear examples of each principle through the work, She perfectly explains how reasoning and creativity could work together as a tutorial for college students essay writing.
In the novel Into the Wild by Jon Krakauer, Chris McCandless takes a wild journey. Although some believe that his journey and thought process was noble and courageous, he was actually extremely fatuous throughout his journey. Many people that Chris met along the way made remarkable attempts at making him aware of the dangers that he would surely face in Alaska. Chris McCandless knowingly stepped into the treacherous wild without being prepared for what reality would throw his way.
In an excerpt of Unteaching the Five-Paragraph Essay," Marie Foley reveals how the Five-Paragraph Essay formula contradicts writing instructor's most basic goals. Foley shows that the formula deters from generating individual thinking. In today's society, essays are used by millions of people in order to express their different ideas. The Five-Paragraph Essay formula was originally developed to help retain the efficiency and clarity of the essay. Foley, however, believes that this process eventually separates the student from his or her written expression and should be used only as a first step tool for beginning student writers. Foley insists that the formula blocks discovery, squelches authenticity and undermines the reader's need for
The expectations of writing in college compared to writing in high school greatly differ. In high school our focus was on narrating an essay, but in college you are interpreting the information and sources to then explain your ideas in-depth. Your essay structure also has no boundaries; you’re free to organize the essay however
In the book Into the Wild the main character, Chris Mccandless, made a rational decision to exclude himself from human society because he believed that going beyond what his parents and society wanted he would live a happier life. Chris wanted to leave society and venture into the wilderness to find the true meaning of who he was. Chris Mccandless was neither crazy or ignorant to live off in the wild where there was no people or anything to interact with but nature. Chris wanted to find his inner self and not only was he a role model for kids all across the country but he also followed his dream. Even though it was selfish of him to leave his family, Chris Mccandless is not crazy because he followed his dream, lived his life the way he wanted to, and went into the wild to find who he truly was.

Those were Adrian Peterson’s final numbers in yesterday’s game. At age 30, he leads the NFL in rushing yards with 961. He leads the NFL in rushes of 20 yards or longer. He leads the NFL in yards after contact. He basically leads the NFL in almost every rushing category this season.
The case examines a dispute between Meg Cooke, DSS’s COO and Chris Peterson, newly appointed Southwest Region’s team leader. Cooke appointed Peterson a leadership role for one of the newly structured cross-functional teams designated to create a new integrated budget and planning system. The cross functional teams were tasked with building relationships with existing school districts in their regions and provide them a full range of DSS services and to develop new consulting offerings in response to the district’s needs. (Case 2010) Theses goals were created to facilitate a transition to servicing larger districts rather than the smaller districts, which
I have learned many things throughout the course of the term, including such things as: how to write an essay and how to improve on essays that I have already written, how to locate and composite better research through the use of numerous resources found at the campus library, the internet, and the “Common Sense” textbook, how to cite research, examples, and quotations properly within the contents of my research paper as well as document it accurately according to MLA standards. Through the exploration of the “Subjects and Strategies” textbook, I have learned nine different methods used when writing an effective essay and how the different writing styles affect the overall theme and tone of the essay when used properly. This past
Throughout my time writing at the City College of New York, I experienced a slow and dramatic transition to my first semester of this college course. During that time, I've learned from several feedback and lessons from certain peers and my professor. Because of the strict comments written in my drafts by my professor, a few helpful suggestions to include in my writing, and a few miserably failures, I was able to see how my writing and habits have changed during the duration of this course. Back in high school, I was always comfortable writing only five paragraph essays (Introduction, three body paragraphs, and a conclusion), but I've never expected to write something more complex. Here, I was encouraged to include as much detail as I can instead of writing something vague
Chris Mccandless was a man that many would call crazy or maybe even immoral. He left everything to live in the wild and become “one with nature”. He had determination, a strong mindset, fearlessness and courage. I believe that my life and the life of Chris Mccandless are not similar in any aspect. In fact I wish that my life was more like his and that I had the drive and determination to do what he did.
